Law & Ethics - February 2007

My father have a court order conservator.This conservator went through my fathers savings and used all the money that was saved and now he is trying to take the house away from my father and leave him with nothing. What can I do to fight the legal system. I have talk to attorney's but they want a retainer fee, but, they are not quarantee I would win the case. Why should I pay them if I am not going to win if I want to go against the conservator in court. Some one with legal knowlege or someone who is going thru or been thru this please acknowledge me. I need to know what to do.

There are millions of non-US citizens (immigrants) living in the US right now. Wouldn't the public acknowledgement of Presidents' Day and Independence Day be offensive to these minorities? Perhaps they will be offended at the notion that many Americans observe these holidays, and maybe they have their own cultural holidays that we should acknowledge around the timeframe of Presidents Day/4th of July?

Maybe we should say "Happy End-winter Holidays" to avoid offense?

Did you think that was ridiculous? Me too. Now allow me to get to my point...why is it wrong to say "Merry Christmas" when 96% of Americans celebrate it? If I was a non-US citizen living in the USA then I wouldn't be offended by the celebration of Independence Day...so why would/should non-Christmas celebrants be offended by promotion of Christmas? This baffles me. Can anyone provide a decent answer without cursing me down?

My hubby and I are debating wether or not road h*e*a*d is illegal. We both like it, but he won't let me do it unless it's nighttime, even if we're on the interstate. He says it's indecent exposure and lewd in public, I say that no one can see it, so it's not indecent exposure and it's not public if we're on an interstate in our own personal car. Who's right?

off when I sold my home. I still see his sign around town and I would like to know if it would be illegal to let his clients know how crooked he is by sending them a letter with details of how dishonest he is.

If you have your learner's license for at least a year and are 16, can you drive without and adult to and from work with just the learner's license? Or do you have to get a real license?

They asked if I wanted to buy more pictures of my child (after I've already paid twice for pictures). This is the third time they have been to the school to take pictures. I did not fill out anything and my daughter knew that she wasn't to have her picture taken and even told the people that her mom did not want her to take pictures. They told her that everyone was taking pictures and they took her picture. Three weeks later they send home a packet of pictures and told us to send a check if we wanted to keep them or send them back to be thrown away if we didn't. Is it illegal for me to keep the pictures without paying? I again did not fill anything out saying I wanted them, this is something they do regularly I'm told, on the hopes everyone just sends them money for them. I want to lodge a complaint. I don't like being manipulated through my kids! Especially at school! How do I go about this? Thanks

I was injured at a water park and their claim adjuster wants to offer me a settlement amount. My medical and other total 30K . They want to pay that and an amount for pain and suffering. I have to have a tendon transplant which has some risks involved. I'm not sure what a fair amount would be.

It like this. The proposed budget's call for additional funding for war will be amended with a decree that the funding will be allowed as long as the troops are trained, equipped, and rested per existing law prior to the allocation of funds. When it's put up for a vote--Bush, the Pentagon, and the Defense Department will be forced to do get all their ducks in a row in order to propagate insanity--no way it will happen. Production sharing agreements between the Big Oil Conglomerates are not a justification for War and our soldiers are not supposed to be the pawns for such entities. Is Murtha the man or what?

Can you please give me your veiws on how capital punishment is racially and ethnically biased. Can you please also give me your "con" views on capital punishment. Just give men anything. I get all these newsletters from other organizations, a lot of this stuff is trash but some of it is really useful. I wouldn't post it on my site but I would like to post it on some blogs... Can I do that without consequence? The articles and info are usually tagged with a copyright notice. But If I'm only posting it to a blog is it illegal?

Not that it really matters, because it would be completely unenforcable. But I'm curious, so here it is:
We have mail in elections in my state, you ballot is mailed to you. I'm kind of fed up with politics, and I'm not really thrilled with the 2 party system any more. What if I let my bf, who can't vote because he's only a legal resident, not a citizen, vote for me, and I just sign my ballot? Is this technically legal?

My children left home, and they settled on their own. I have three.
The two oldest are featherheads. They got houses for themselves, and these houses, very bad, the slightest breath was enough to destroy them, and they were not even insured. So, they moved in with the third one, and his house is very nice, stone structure.
But now they have trouble with Mr B. B. Wolf, a tax collector. They did not open the door to him, so he tried to enter through the
chimney, and was badly hurt.
Now they are asking me to step in and pay Mr B.B. Wolf's hospital fees.
Should I help them?
