I read that if a woman or girl is raped in Afghanistan, their father and brothers have the legal right to kill them for shaming the family. Is this true? If so, can someone explain why?

We just signed a one year lease on July 15 2006 for a single family home. With no mention from the landlord, 12 days after moving in, we found survey engineers on our front lawn. Six days after this a story appeared in our local paper naming our landlord and how he had obtained zoning to turn our new home into offices for his business. This is a SICK and dirty game to play with a family who has, at least for 18 days, been very happy. There is no telling what this guy is going to do to us in the coming weeks. Does he have the ability to terminate our lease based soley on these selfish reasons?

I'm talking about the laws which existed before the "no-fault" divorce laws came in.

I wasn't around at the time, but whenever I read or hear about them, they seem pretty sensible.

What was so wrong with them that they needed changing?

The past few months I've had a woodpecker attacking my wood siding on my house waking me around 5am every morning. After about 6 straight weeks of early wake up calls I finally got smart and sided my house with vinyl siding, problem solved... or so I thought. He soon began pecking the one and only tree in my yard, so of course I cut it down. Here comes the big problem. Now when I leave my home, the woodpecker swarms me and pecks at my head and I can't make him stop. Because of a rare abnormality, my head is made of red oak. I refuse to cut my head off, because if I do the woodpecker wins. What should I do? Please help.

My daughter signed a one year lease (as typed in on the top of the lease) on Sept 1, 2005. Sometime in June she received a notice saying her lease was up on July 31, 2006. Upon calling the rental company and explaining that she needed to be there until the end of August (the end of the 1 year), she was told she would have to sign another 1 year lease as the first lease was dated to end on 7/31/2006 (hand written in). Does the hand written date override the typed lease terms?

Because I went to a store and wanted to pay for something that was just over a dollar and I gave them three 50 cent pieces, can they refuse them as payment, because this store did? Because if you want to buy something at a store arent you in debt until you pay for it, legaly a 50 cent piece is legal tender and dosent legal tender have to be accepted to pay off a debt? The Currency Act (http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-52/46135.html) is kind of hard to inderstand. I know this is a silly question, but I feel a need to have a answer to all my questions.

A plant in a small town is in violation of the environmental laws. If you enforce the laws’ requirements, the plant will be forced to shut down. The plant is the major source of employment for the town, and its closure would impose severe economic hardships. Should that fact play a role in regulatory enforcement?
