Law & Ethics - July 2006

i.e.: Everyone's actions are controlled to prevent war, disease, famine, genocide, etc. No one can choose to harm someone else or make choices that could lead to a disruption of the world's peace. Please don't try to be argumentative by saying "well what do you mean by free will?" or something like that. Just honestly answer the question and try to give examples or explanations.

The point is basically to see how far we would go to protect ourselves, or bring "peace". (something to think on: the Patriot Act)

I was with a cell phone retail company providing Cingular Wireless a year ago. I had only been with this company for about three weeks when they ceased business. I cancelled that plan with Cingular and opened a new account. Now, one year after the fact, the old company charged me termination fees in which it stated i was bound too in the contract.

My question is: Can a company that has ceased to do business still bind old customers to the contract. If so, is there a fair and reasonable time in which the company must seek charges (i.e. it took this company 9 months after the account was officially closed).

Thanks.

My friend's boyfriend gave her a puppy as a gift last year. The couple is breaking up now and he claims that the dog is his because he paid for it. Who is right? Is there any law about this since he did give her the dog?

She claims that the puppy died of Parvo. But the strain she says he had takes 14 days to show up. She had him for 20 days, then claims she took it to the vet because he was sick. She also said it had severe case of worms. Now she wants to keep the puppy, get a full refund AND pay 1/2 her vet bill!
Am I liable? I have the gaurantee in writing. Every other person who took a pup from that litter has called to tell me how perfect & Healthy their pup is. One family even said their vet was shocked that a pup under 4 months had NO worms. If no other pup or Mom has parvo and I have 5 other dogs that also don't have parvo, could that one have gotten it before leaving me? Could 1 pup have "a severe case of worms" but no others? She also said it was flea infested, no others were. So, do I owe her anything?
I'm calling her vet tomorrow & mine who examined mom & pups at 2 days old.

Today I went to the bank to cash two $69 dollar checks. When the teller slid one of the checks through the check processor it read $690.00 instead of $69.00. I didn't realize what was going on until he asked me what denominations I wanted my money in and then started counting out $100 bills. When he was done and about to give me my money, I smiled and kindly replied, "You may want to take another look at the two checks I just gave you." He was surprised to see that both checks were only $69.00 each. Keeping the money was not an option. However, I couldn't help but wonder how I might have responded if that had happened eight years ago before I was saved and accepted Christ as my personal Saviour. I would like to think that I would've done the same thing I did today, however, I am not 100% sure I would have. What would you have done?

Found out that this TV infomercial scam works this way: They send you 2 orders for every 1 you order & of course, charge you for two. Then to get your money back, they make you pay for return shipping! I found others via internet search (infomercialscam.com) that had the same thing happen to them. Am I obligated to return their extra product at my expense when I didn't order it?

But yet President Clinton's so call affair with Monica made National Headlines.

President Kennedy cheated on his wife Jackie many times. She even found panties in their bed that did not belong to her.

So why can one president cheat on his wife and it is not a big deal but then another does and it is a crime?

I was told that Clinton was impeached, but I am not sure. Was he impeached?

I have a neighbor who has called my landlord making false accusations. She is claiming that my oldest daughter is uncontrollable, my wife and I are never home, the cops are at our house 2-3 times a week, and that parties are always held at the house, all of which is untrue. This neighbor never once approached me or my wife telling us that she has any problems with us or my oldest daughter. She has also called the cops on my 9 year old daughter for throwing rocks into a puddle. This neighbor is claiming that she and several other neighbors are going to the home owners association to try and have us evicted for being a disturbance. My family and I have only been at this new house for 4 months and although we have a good relationship with our landlord, I don’t want my landlord to think that this is becoming a nuisance. What can I do? Can I press charges for harassment against this neighbor?

Something that isn't alive can't possibly turn in to something that is. So lets get this straight. Either we're killing something that is alive or we're admmiting that a thing that wasn't alive just took a breath one day. If you believe the later please name me one instance where an inanamit object took a breath. I would be very interested to here about it.

I was at a drive through car wash and my car got off the track. I got panicked and got out of the car, and before I could walk to the exit, the dryer turned on. I was wearing sweat pants and the force of the air blew my pants down. People waiting outside saw me and started laughing. Would I have a case against the car wash, since the faulty equipment forced my vehicle off the track which ultimately led to me getting humiliated in front of a group of people?

Isn't it amazing that the one with the strongest Army, Airforce and Navy who happens to have the Nuclear bomb times 30 would come up with this idea?
