I'm against anyone breaking the law or drug taking but it seems that if you're a rich, famous celebrity you can get away with much more than Joe Public.

Take the much beloved Kate Moss. She is discovered and filmed taking drugs, arrested and investigated by the police and let off with a caution. Yet, Kate Moss continues to be adored by the public and earns millions advertising products.

With great wealth, celebrity and fame should come great responsibility as these people are icons of younger and more impressionable people who copy their behaviour even if it's criminal.

Why aren't (popular) celebrities punished under the law and made to suffer for their wrong doings like ordinary people? Is this right? I'd like the views of others on this as I can't be the only one who feels this is wrong. Serious discussions only please as any abuse of yahoo answers will be reported.

Why is is right to say anyone should get an advantage based solely on sex or skin color. Does a 1/4 mix black from an affluent neighborhood deserve preference over a white kid living in a trailer? Why don't asians qualify? What makes one minority "less advantaged" over another? What percentage of any ethnic group do you have to be to qualify? If you can anwer these then have at it- I think it's all complete madness. The only group that truley needs assistance is the disabled.

I'm not a racist, but I think affirmative action is ridiculous. Favoring minorities because of their race is institutionalized racism in my opinion. Primarily minority schools nationwide receive about half of the funding that primarily white schools do. Wouldn't it be better to fill that gap so that minorities will have an equal education and credentials needed to get a job on their own merit instead of getting "bonus points" on exams or interviews simply because of their race?

my husband got suspended form his job until his court day and will lose his job and if he is convicted of an assault four, domestic violence against me and therefore I lose income and my kids lose their insurance. He has his arraingment on the 11th and the D.A. sent me some papers asking different questions like how has this affected me and my family and what punishement do I think he should get and if I am willing to testify. (If he gets fired, he doesn't have much experience and I know he wouldn't be able to get a better job than he had and that will affect child support and the kids' insurance..he works for wal-mart distribution center. If it wasn't for that fact I wouldn't care but I can't afford the insurance at my job and I don't qualify for state assistance, supoosedly I make too much money). If I state those things and that I wouldn't be willing to testify would there be a chance the d.a. would drop the charges? he lives in Oregon.

you talk to? The orginal charge that the DA is representing is theft by conversion. I believe we have grounds to pursue breach of contract and possibly malicious prosecution against the man who originally filed charges. If we want this all rolled into the same trial, do we go to another lawyer within the DA's office or stay away from them altogether?

I collect old math books, and I have several ranging from 50 to 200 years old. I would like to scan a few of them (none newer than roughly 75 years old) in their entirety and post the images online for people to use and look at. None of the books I want to scan are still in print, and I am fairly certain that all of the authors are deceased. I looked at the copyright office's website, and it said that books copyrighted before 1978 were not in the online database and required the services of the office (at a whopping $75 per hour or fraction of an hour for an informal search, plus an additional $80 per hour for certified results). Is there any law on the books that would spare me the expense of performing such a search (i.e., prove that the books are in the public domain)? Also, if you have experience with these searches, about how many titles do you expect they can find in one hour? I may as well get my money's worth if I have to pay them for a whole hour. Thanks in advance!

My mom left the country over 6 months ago with plans to start a new life in France and to have my little sister brought over when she was stable.
She left my younger sister with my older sister. Now my older sister is trying to obtain gaurdianship of my younger sister (now 14 yrs old) without my moms permission. Can she do this?

P.s. - my mom cannot come back to the US due to HER immigration status but my lil sister is a citizen.

This would be easier because employers could verify employment via the resume and database. It would store all employment data including why they had left. You could also store educational information. This could be equvalent to a credit report.

I live in Oregon. Is there a law stating that a landlord has to replace carpet in a rental unit, such as an apartment?? Such as, every two years, between tenants, etc???

I am being sued for damage to carpet in a rental unit that I lived in for 2 1/2 years. The damage occured UNDER where the W/D sat!!! I want to find any legal backing that I can to defend myself!

Any help or links to legal sites with this information very appreciated!

I have seen many celebrities break the law and the punishment they get is a joke. On the other hand if a regular person, middle class would commit the same crime, the punishment would be more harsh. Is there two legal systems at work here, why do Celebs get away with a lot, but the regular people get hammered? Take DMX for example, he stole a car in the airport, crashed it through a security gate, and tried to imersonate an FBI agent, a regular person would be rotting in prison right now, but not DMX, why is this so? Sure they get huge fines, but for what they make, it evens out.

If a woman choses to have an abortion, many say it is her choice and hers alone. But if she chose to have her baby, the father is legally obligated to provide for their child for 18 years. How, then, can he not have any legal rights before the child is born?

In my state, you get a ticket if you do not wear your seatbelt. I don't understand how they have this right?

1. We are not the 'greatest good for the greatest number' country. We are a country that gives ppl choices over their own bodies and protect that right... the right of the ONE.

2. Percentages show that about 90% of ppl in car accidents live because they have their seatbelt on. This means that there is 10% that live because they did NOT have it on.

How does the state have the right to decide FOR ME which percentage/risk I want to select??

I've been told that state's governors are lobbied by insurance companies to pass these type of laws. That makes sense to me. I just feel like this country is becoming more and more and more like NAZI GERMANY! Next they will be telling me what to eat, drink, and how many times I should poop a day.
