Why is is right to say anyone should get an advantage based solely on sex or skin color. Does a 1/4 mix black from an affluent neighborhood deserve preference over a white kid living in a trailer? Why don't asians qualify? What makes one minority "less advantaged" over another? What percentage of any ethnic group do you have to be to qualify? If you can anwer these then have at it- I think it's all complete madness. The only group that truley needs assistance is the disabled.

I don't know but if I was black I would be insulted to know that I needed something like that to get a job. It would make me think that the government thought I was stupid and didn't have any skills so I couldn't get a job based on that. I hate it personally. I have to turn down talented people all the time.

The 1960's seem like forever ago. Those of us who weren't even born then have a hard time imagining it, but the truth is racism is still alive and well. I think we can all agree.

Today the average CEO is in his late 50's. So that means he was growing up during those still very racist times. There was a study a year or so ago that showed most of a person's beliefs are in place by time they are seven or eight.

Maybe they aren't racist overtly. Maybe it's subconscious. But there is racism in the work place.

Affirmative Action isn't great...in fact it sucks pretty hard...but what is the alternative. Should we just wait while minorities slide further behind. We have to try something, and in less you have a better idea just deal with it...many great Americans had to do it for hundreds of years.

I am going to answer your question by asking one. How should the people who went thru slavery for centuries be compensated? And who benefit from affirmative action the most? Is it not white women? If there is no affirmative action, people will deny other race just because of skin color. And it is a way to rapid the process of the getting the less fortunate up to the top. That is my take to this.

Think of it in terms of a horse race where one horse starts 4 furlongs ahead of the others. What are the chances the other horses will win?
White males have benefited and continue to benefit from society to an unequal degree. You want proof? Let me ask you this: you have the opportunity to double, triple maybe even quadruple your salary, but you have to instantly turn black - would you do it? Why not? Everything's equal, right?

Nice to see you again Leifr. How's the new hood fitting?
Those of you who think affirmitive action should be abolished, this is the company you're keeping.

I would like to hear the answer from the American politicians on that issue! I strongly believe that it should no longer exist. I can see why it existed before, but you cannot say there is THAT much racism still left in this country. Affirmative Action is no longer needed. Lets start a petition on the issue.

It's complete bullsh*t and needs to be taken out!! balck kids with LOW SAT's are getting into amazing colleges while white kids with way HIGHER scores are getting rejected, all based on race!
I'm sorry, but that's pure racism! If we're all equal, shouldn't we all have the same rights and benefits? As in, black people should not have any extra help from the govt!!!

I'm white, but sadly we still NEED affirmative action. I'm not speaking as a Lib, Dem or any party affiliate. Just as someone who looks around and sees whats going on. There are still hurdles to be gotten over in this "good ol' boy" system of government and business. Not only for other races but for women. When women and other races receive equal pay and equal oppurtunities then I'll be more than happy to see it go.

You'll hear a few morons parrot "It has only benefited white women, therefore we still need it so it can benefit minorities." Bullshit! Affirmative Action should never have existed. It is nothing but discrimination against whites in a country we built. White America take your country back.

Affirmative action mainly benefits white women, and things are changing now that women are better able to find work, and educate themselves. It benefits everyone. And until you narrow that $.75 on the dollar inequality of pay, we will still need affirmative action.
