It seems to me that an influx of immigration bolsters the economy and doesn't depress it. And that immigrant workers are not lowering the wages of American as some people have stated.

No?

Why does Yahoo spin this like those who are breaking the law are the ones suffering?

No one to blame but the illegals themselves. Families do not have to be torn apart, if they are as illegal as those being deported, they should go to their home country as well.
Problem fixed no illegal immigration, no families torn apart.

Not only does Chia-Duran want full Amnesty from President Bush's Leave No Illegal Alien Behind Act, but he also wants full immunity of his crimes due to foreign treaties - treaties supported by the Bush Administration.

The defendant, Eligio Chia-Duran. Chia-Duran, wore a black headset, during the proceedings, and listened to his lawyer’s arguments through a translator. I am American and I want to immigrate to Australia. I will turn 20 next month and I have no education passed high school. My girlfriend lives in Australia, she is Australian (that’s the reason for me wanting to immigrate). What type of visa should I get? I know there are different types… Would a Partner Visa be suitable for me? And could I legally have a job if I got that type of visa? Or do I need a Work Visa for that? I have to be able to have a job, obviously...

Also, considering my age and educational background, would getting a visa be difficult for me? I know this is a difficult process and I’d really appreciate any advice that anyone may have for me…
Thanking everyone in advance,
Thomas

I think it's time we Americans started sticking it to Mexico. Rampant political corruption and the influence of the Catholic Churche's views on birth control, have kept our neighbor a country in turmoil. In Mexico, you are either very rich or very poor; there is almost no middle class. The thing that makes the USA unique in the world is that it has a thriving middle class: this is also the engine that drives our continued prosperity. Instead of building walls and talking about deporting 12 million people, while Mexico sits on its hands, a change in trade policy, tied to repatriation of illegal immigrants and Mexico securing its own border, could be the best way to pressure Mexico to conduct itself as a responsible nation and worthy neighbor. Let the rich people of Mexico figure out how to keep their fortunes if the USA imposes a 400% tariff on Mexian goods.

The truth is that American companies are hiring illegal immigrants because of cheap labor. They are very greedy. If no illegals existed in the US, they would find some other way: like moving out to India, Malaysia, or some other country.

Americans would lose their jobs anyway. Therefore I think the problem is: American companies. A new American corporate culture should be taught at schools, and new values should be taught to children in order to create a society that not only thinks in money terms, in terms of how much I am going to lose or win, but also in terms of their nation.

Hi. I know that everyone has a viewpoint on illegal immigration. But the line dividing anti-illegal views and racism is very thin.

One problem I always find with this... is that illegal immigrants don't carry a sign saying that they are illegal. Very often American citizens make these judgements based on physical appeareance ("that person looks like an illegal").

I am from LatinAmerica and live in the U.S. legally, however many times I've been treated as an illegal, looked at as if I were an illegal, insulted as an illegal, and denied oportunities (just because of my appeareance)

So, what can be done to stop this from happening. What's the thin line dividing anti-illegal views from racism? What's the line between political issue vs a personal issue.

What can be done about this?

I do not understand. Why are Mexicans so desperate to escape from Mexico that they're tunneling under the border and jumping over the border to escape? Mexico must really be a horrible place to live.

People there are trying to cross into U.S border all the time. Why sit here and discuss measures that we should pass to stop them from coming over? Why not expand the U.S border into Mexico by invading them? We gain a piece of land, and they get to live in the U.S. There is no reason they would resist. Its a win/win situation.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. English is a second language? Spanish is more popular.

How come the immigrants don't learn our language of English?
I heard one say, because we are too old (20 yr. olds) to learn, but yet we have to learn their language to communicate to them.
