A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in
ages!!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across
the country protesting the fact that Congress is
finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its
own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this
country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking
behind these protests. Let's say I break into your
house. Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't like to do. I'm
hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house You are
Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You
are Required to Educate my kids You are required to
Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he
is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will
call my friends who will picket your house carrying
signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer
house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.
I'm a hard-working and honest, person,
(except for well, you know, I did break into your
house)
What a deal it is for me!!! I live in your house,
contributing only a fraction of the cost of my
keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without
being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced,
and bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.And
don't forget to make sure your forms are in MY
language - I need to understand them...
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in
America. If you agree, pass it on ( in English ).
Share it if you see the value of it.
If not blow it off.........

I'm a permanent resident of the United States and am Australian-born. I'm in the process of being naturalized here in the US, I decided to do this as Australia now allows it's citizens to hold "dual" citizenship. I also decided to do this so that I can vote and also have the same citizenship as my US-born children.

However, when I spoke to the US Immigration Dept at my civics interview yesterday, they said that the US does NOT recognize dual citizenship. Somehow I completely missed that piece of information and that has me worried.

I'm posting this question to any other Aussies here in the US who have been naturalized as US Citizens. If the United States doesn't acknowledge my Australian citizenship, will that cause complications for me in some way down the line?

I know the pros of becoming a US citizen: voting rights etc. But now I'm wondering whether there are significant disadvantages that I haven't yet researched.

Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

I am living in the US and need my birth certificate from Nagpur, India. This is required for green card purposes and have to submit the certificate within 15 days. Someone please advice what is the best way to get this - is there an agent available who can do this quickly? I do not have anybody living Nagpur who can help me.

I have to agree. Some hispanics just don't get it.


Some Hispanic leaders lashed out Friday at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's advice that immigrants should "turn off the Spanish television set" to better learn how to speak English.

Schwarzenegger, who immigrated to the U.S. from Austria, recently told a group of Hispanic journalists that immigrants should stay away from Spanish-language television, books and newspapers.

"You've got to turn off the Spanish television set," Schwarzenegger said Wednesday night at the annual convention of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in San Jose, Calif. "You're just forced to speak English, and that just makes you learn the language faster."

im not hating on illegal immigrants but i just dont think its fair for other legal aliens. My family and i waiting for 5 years back in our country and being broke at the same time. We came to the U.S go to school, work and to be a good resident. After 5 years we earn a citizen status. While they go under the table, break the law and still have amnesty? who think its fair?
i think they should all go back to their country and wait ilke we did. Im sure they'll feel exactly the same way i feel if they was in my shoes.

If the flow of illegal immigrants is not stopped?
Once that happens, where would the illegals turn to to get their free ride? Will they then immigrate illegally to Canada and turn that into a toilet as well?

That supposedly border security was to be put in place prior to the amnesty,yet Bush's latest little idea is to use money from fines that illegals pay to help fund border security,now how can they be getting their amnesty and paying their fines which will help fund border security if the border security is supposed to come first. Why is it always DIFFERENT when discussing breaking the law by illegal immigrants. I've heard time and time again that it's DIFFERENT because their trying to support themselfs in a better life. I don't disagree with that at all, but open your eye's and call it what it is, If you're illegal then that means your breaking the law otherwise they would call it something else, right? They would call you a refugee or a political prisoner, they're not, They're called illegal immigrants. Which means they are immigrating here illegally. A comment made by one of my state senators (Wyden-OR) stated that a problem our border patrol and national guard is facing is hordes (up to a hundred or more) of illegals rushing the border en mass. Obviously five or ten people cannot apprehend a hundred. Should they open fire on them? This could easily be considered an invasion force.

I'm out of the country for an extended period, and would like to know about the immigration debate. I figured the Republicans would take stern measures against illegal immigration, while Democrats would have hippie sit-ins and talk about how the illegals are all hard woking grape pickers.

However, from the few articles I was able to gather, it seems like both parties are just content to let in 12 million people, although they may have to pay a penalty.

Is no one worried about permanently changing the racial composition of the U.S.? How about wages? Isn't letting in all these people just an excuse to keep wages low?

What are the real issues being debated? Has anyone seriously broached the very non-PC topic of maintaining the current racial composition in the U.S., or are politcians too gutless to speak about the obvious?

Hi, my name is Yeraldin, I am 18 yrs. old, I live with my parents, and my 12 yr. old couysing named Jason visits us everyother yr, we live in Atlanta Georgia, he lives in Mexico. I am from el salvador and I have a u.s. tourist visa but not a canadian one. but thats not the point, my question is:can I just go inside canada through the niagara falls, which is a customs-free area or should I go to the canadian embassy and get a tourist visa and then while i stay there we get married? would it be a problem if I just go in there as a tourist and then get married or do i have another option?

A homeless man breaks into your house, helps himself to your food and then takes a nap. You come home and find him sleeping and immediately call the cops. The officer shows up, and asks the guy his name. He runs his name through his computer and tells the guy that he can go. You are shocked and demand that he arrest the man, that he should not get off when he broke into your house. The police officer thinks about it for a minute and tells the guy to pay you $50.00. The homeless man of course doesn’t have it so he tells him to pay you when he can. You are disgusted by this and you call the police chief, who seems amazed that you are complaining. He tells you that the man didn’t get off scot free because he is going to pay you $50.00. He explains that the man is less fortunate than you and you should be a little more understanding, and not treat him with animosity. You persist in your complaint and tell him that you have heard about homeless people breaking into other people’s houses and robbing them, killing the owners, and/or raping the women. The police chief is shocked that you are comparing this man to those others when he didn’t hurt you. He explains that the man was just looking for a warm place to sleep, and the you shouldn’t compare him to those others, because not all of them are looking to hurt anybody, they just need a warm safe place to sleep. You again persist in your complaint, and he tells you to use that $50.00 that the homeless man is going to pay you to buy a better lock for your door to keep out other people that may try and break into your house.

How would you feel about this, would you feel like the cops are looking out for yours and your family’s safety and security- that they are looking out for your best interest.
