A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in
ages!!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across
the country protesting the fact that Congress is
finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its
own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this
country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking
behind these protests. Let's say I break into your
house. Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't like to do. I'm
hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house You are
Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You
are Required to Educate my kids You are required to
Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he
is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will
call my friends who will picket your house carrying
signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer
house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.
I'm a hard-working and honest, person,
(except for well, you know, I did break into your
house)
What a deal it is for me!!! I live in your house,
contributing only a fraction of the cost of my
keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without
being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced,
and bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.And
don't forget to make sure your forms are in MY
language - I need to understand them...
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in
America. If you agree, pass it on ( in English ).
Share it if you see the value of it.
If not blow it off.........
along with your future Social Security funds, and a
lot of other things

This makes perfect sense.
What we need to do, however, is STOP paying them!!! They come here for money, and they're getting it! What are we supposed to do once we already have so many over here? We just have to stop, there's no other choice.

No it doesn't make any sense. It's flawed logic and has little basis in reality. It's just rhetoric filled with emotional gobbledygook to pull on people's heart strings and completely misses the point of why they are here in the first place.
Everybody wants to whine but don't have the courage to take responsibility for playing a role in this, no matter how minor or indirect it may be.
Amidst the rabble rousing "they're illegal!" and "they're taking our jobs!" and "they're using all the social services!" hysteria, everyone conveniently forgets the REAL reason we have such a problem with illegal immigration in the first place which is an economic issue that is put into play thanks to free trade and globalization.
US businesses desperately need cheap labor to compete with companies in countries whose labor rates are ridiculously low. We want to shop till we drop and love cheap goods and services but could care less as to why they're so affordable in the first place.
By enacting this "guest worker program" we create a sub-class of individuals who are not quite citizens so they can continue to get paid sub-living standard wages with no benefits which help businesses stay competitive and keeps the political cash flowing to the politicians. It's the ultimate quid pro quo. And if they ever earn their citizenship (8-13 years, according to the bill,) politicians will just have gained a massive voting block to boot!
So while people keep yapping back and forth over status, and cutting the line, and all those nonsensical issues, the real power players gain their cheap labor and we continue to consume like to good flock of sheep that we are.

Look i do understand your point of view and totally agree with you to be that defensive about your rights as an American. But try to open your mind and see the problem from outside the cirlce of the problem:
THINK OF IT THIS WAY:
"You live in your land and own all the gold, treasures, cattle and natural resources and then comes those illegal immigrants and take over your home but not by helping out and being a hard worker serving you, but by killing you! and if you defend yourself they bring all there friends that outnumber you and kill you and your family!" Remember that was how America started. Now what is the percentage of the native Americans from the total population and what are they benefiting of in comparison with the total population.....?????????
I think that is something you should just consider.

What is ridiculous is the unfounded and incorrect accusations.
If you want to attack someone, at least get your facts straight.
Moreover, why is it that people like you are so bent against illegals, but you are the ones illegally hiring them, and thousands work in sweatshops that have no-bid government contracts, like the #1 maker of MRE's in the US were caught with illegals in their factory in Texas and they had forged their documents. When something like that happens you just pretend it never did! They got a slap on the wrist!
I am not for illegals being here, and I am also not for you denigrating, telling half-truths and never going after the real problem: THE PEOPLE THAT HIRE THEM!
Why is it I have NEVER heard a Republican want to go after their criminal employers. Guess the ones you screw are just too easy for you to pound on day after day after day!
Social Security Funds? You mean the same funds that the government ripped off again this year. That is not the governments money. I put it in there from my wages. SS would be solvent if the government would quit stealing from it, and put back the money they have already stolen. At the same rates they charge you if you make a mistake on your taxes!
Grow up!

Sure it makes sense! but look at the issue from economical prospective. Her scenarios is simple because it is about sinlge person. But when it comes to whole population, we need to look at the issue economically. Rules and laws do not make our lives better. But economics do. Yes! their presence here is illegal and against the rules. But then, if they weren't here who is gonna do all works that we aren't willing to do. Our economy will sink down without those workers. This is the story so called amnesty lovers trying to address to the public. But, making those workers US citizen is simply wrong. There must be changes in the bill to get it passed.

It only makes sense regarding illegal immigration by Mexicans. The argument does not hold very well for some nationalities who are here illegally.
Further it does not address desperate political refugees.
We need to protect and defend our borders. We also need to remember to welcome those who come here legally. Lastly, we must choose to love all whether legally or illegally here. We can love without being bullied or abused. It's a choice to be intelligent and compassionate.

Allow me to play the devil's advocate for a moment -
What if I left my door unlocked knowing full well that someone would come into my home and clean it all up for cheap? And then, only after I discover there's now 25 of them in my home and I can no longer afford that many, I decide it's time to kick them out and lock the door?
That puts a different light on the concern vs. the editorial you presented .

It makes a lot of sense. They say they won't allow criminals to stay when they give amnesty. Well, then they all should go, they did break in as you say. They broke our laws, why should we trust them anymore? Many do things the legal way and these illegals are an affront to the legal immigrants and it turns Americans again ALL immigrants and that is not fair.

That argument is a nonsequiter. No one who claims that breaking the law by coming here is the reason for wanting them gone is being honest about the reasons that they want the illegals to leave. No one protested their presence during WWII when Americans were needed to fight that war.
Americans break laws every day. We speed, cheat on our taxes, work under the table, etc. I've never heard rounds of condemnation for speeders, have you? They imperil the lives of your children, parents, brothers and sisters by their lawbreaking. Have you ever posted a question regarding those scofflaws on here? I thought not.
The only way to take the high ground on an issue is to be morally superior, that is, honest. There are plenty of reasons to want illegals gone from the US without obfuscating or diverting from the core issues. The real reason to oust them is the economy.
I could care less whether someone came here legally or not. I only care whether they are a benefit or a burden. The people who decry the method of entry of illegal aliens are the same ones who support illegal detentions, illegal war (read the Constitution), and the illegal occupation by Israel. Whether or not I support these positions is irrelevant. Whether or not they, too, are illegal, is indisputable, yet those who wave the banner of law at the illegal immigration crisis either wear blinders to other corruption or are well aware of their own hipocrisy.
Every single illegal alien needs to be rounded up and deported back to their home countries. The border needs to be enforced. Citizenship by birth needs to be abolished. Employers need to be punished. Public services need to be curtailed to emergency aid only. Public education needs to be restricted. Etc, etc, etc. You see, I can support your platform without denegrating myself by being obtuse. I am on the side of alien enforcement, but I have reasoned, educated arguments to butress my position without crying, "they broke the law by coming here". I haven't even touched on national security and economic security.
So, quit blowing smoke up everyone's a$$, find a real issue and a consensus for it, and fight on that level. Like I said, your argument that they broke the law is a non-issue. It's a means to deport people, not a reason. You wouldn't raise the spectre of lawlessness if their presence suited your purpose, so address the real threats that illegal immigration poses to the country and quit parroting the talking points you hear on talk radio.

you know i am sick of hearing people say illegals will do the jobs that we as americans wont do or we refuse to do. that is a bunch of nonsense, we will do that jobs however we will not do them for the meager pay and benefits that are offered to illegals. there is all this talk about they pick vegetables and clean bathrooms and dishes etc.... but don't we have farm equipment that can pick up vegetables, don't we have teenagers who can work in restaurants to clean the dishes and wash bathrooms while they attend college. there are plenty of americans willing to do the job if they were offered the job. we are americans will refuse any work that boils down to organized slavery with pay because that's exactly what happens to the illegals. this is in response to a person who answered your question and it that statement said they do jobs we wont do, and frankly i am sick of hearing that they do jobs that are given to them because companies know they can exploit them point blank.
