I am talking about the real Native Americans. I am not talking about inmigrants who came generations ago and claim this country as theirs.

Just read this in the paper: DONNA, TX - Bandits shot hundreds of rounds of automatic gunfire at Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputies and Border Patrol agents Wednesday fromthe Mexican side of the Rio Grande. ... "This is one of the reasons that I do not allow my deputies to patrol the riverbanks or levees close to the river", Trevino said, "because we do know there are drug gangs and human trafficking gangs that will not hesitate to shoot in our direction to get us out of the area."

So .. if the sheriff is understaffed and under equipped to patrol the area ... that means that that stretch of river is totally unpatrolled ... and can we expect our government to issue a strong protest to Mexico, and demand they keep their thugs under control? Dream on ....

I love learning other languages and about the cultures behind them. I learned French when I was in High School and got hooked. I then took Latin in college and am currently trying to learn Italian and Japanese on my own for the fun of it.

But I refuse to learn Spanish. I am protesting this language because I live in California and everywhere they want you to learn Spanish. This is America the only language I should HAVE TO learn is English. I go to stores and need to ask someone a question and they look at me like they have no idea what I'm saying because they don't speak English. My friend had a similar experience at Walmart.

I think if you come to this country the least you can do is learn the language. When I went to Paris, people were nice to you if you at least tried to speak their language, but for those who didn't they were completely mean. And I can't blame them for that because they have pride in the language of their country. Why shouldn't Americans.

Mexican-American, Afro-American. What about the rest of the world? I am American with (I think) English, German, Italian and Irish genes. Since my great-great-great-great grand father came to, what is now, North Carolina in 1720, I probably have genes from Africa. Do I need 5 hyphens?

POLICE IN Eugene, Ore., arrested Suzanne Nichole Swift June 11 and charged her with desertion for the “crime” of refusing to return to Iraq.

Swift, a 21-year-old specialist serving with the 54th Military Police Company, explained her decision by citing not only her opposition to the illegal and immoral war in Iraq, but also repeated sexual harassment and abuse suffered at the hands of her commanders and other soldiers.

In January, Swift was ordered to return to Iraq with her unit, but she did not report for duty.

When she joined the Army in spring 2003, recruiters told Swift that if she signed up as a military police specialist for a five- instead of a four-year stint, she would not be sent to Iraq. The latest atrocity to come to light took place March 12 in the town of Al-Mahmudiyah. According to reports, then-Private Steven Green and at least two other soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division allegedly stalked 15-year-old Abeer Kasim Hamza for a week.

Green and other soldiers then raped and murdered Abeer--after first killing her mother Fakhriya Taha Muhsen, father Kasim Hamza Rasheed and 5-year-old sister Hadel. In an attempt to cover up the crime, the soldiers then burned the lower half of Abeer’s body and set the famiily’s farmhouse on fire.

I can see that the embassies are pretty stringent with their requirements. There is a lot of information to gather, forms to fill out, and photos to take. I know that my fiancé will need to go to Santo Domingo for an interview. Will I need to go, too? Is it difficult to come to America? How long will it take him to get a social security card so that he can work here? I have more questions, but they're not coming to mind right now. ANY info you have will be wonnnderful! =)

Here's a personal example: a friend of mine came here from Colombia under a political asylum agreement and for one year her parents kept her and her sister out of school so that they could get english lessons. As a result, both girls could speak fluent english, the parents speak functional english and despite their strong South American roots their whole family is as red white and blue as the rest of us.

..... i understand that maybe there needs to be a transition period from english to spanish, but school districts should not provide Spanish language education for someone from grades K-12. School disctricts should provide for a 1 year transition period and after that it's all english. Of course i'm not saying ban Spanish in the home or the workplace as some will try to claim in their responses.

Having criminal checks and the right documentaion verifications with in a certain time limit done before they put the ones they catch in holding facillities to be deported.If the immigrant has a verified reason without having a criminal history to be here Then letting the judicial system handle it. I realize it's a difficult solution and expensive but maybe we would have less "illegal" people here. I have to believe that the majority come for a better life. Especially the children. This Idea needs work but it is an idea.

that the argument of why illegal immigration is bad for society is that American tax money is spent on it? I'd like to see the statistics on that and then I'd compare them to the exploited wages and treatment they get. Is California bankrupt because of illegal immigrants, or are they bankrupt because big corporations take advantage of its citizens and its government? Wasn't our great country founded on illegal immigration as we waltzed onto the Native Americans' land? Why don't we try having compassion for illegal immigrants rather than condemning them? Some have the idea that if we do not show direct compassion to illegal immigrants, they will stop coming, and that will be better for everyone involved. The consequences in this case justify the fact that you will at some point have to deny a starving man food, a sick man medicine, a pregnant woman a place to give birth, etc. Why don't we treat others as we want to be treated? How can we expect the big corporations and our politicians..

After we build this Giant wall between mexico and the US, we should then build a giant wall between Canada and the US because, and i know it's hard to believe, but immigrants come through those borders too, we should also biuld a big wall around the pacivic, carebian, and atlantic so immigrants don't come in through there either. Funny how immigrants come from many different races and countries but mexicans are the only scapegoat, i think it's a race issue.

How is it that people will work their brains for something like illegal immigration, but don't use their brains when they're driving, or on everyday life????????
