America is a rich nation. As such we can support a large population, but our limits are not infinite. Americans tend to embrace most cultures, and revel in diversity. It is good when we can extend the opportunity of better life to people from around the world. However we are also a nation of laws. If we are not going to enforce one law, then why should we enforce any. Abandon the laws and this country will not be a great place to live for long. I completely support legal immigration to this country, and welcome these people with open arms. However, illegal entry is not only dangerous to our way of life due to international terrorism, it is wholly unfair to the people who are willing to follow the legal process.

I feel great about LEGAL immigration and welcome others warmly to our nation.
ILLEGAL immigration, on the other hand, should be considered a felony. After all, it is an invasion of our country, it's a lack of disregard for our nation's borders and laws.
This excuse that they are taking jobs that American's won't do is just an excuse to have a human underclass in our nation...in other words, it's institutionalized slavery. This is wrong and should be ended as quickly as possible.
What does it mean to be an American?
To be a citizen of the most generous and caring nation in the world?
To be prosperous but ready to serve?
To desire to see others experience the liberty we have, to work to see injustice ended, to answer the cries of children?
I'd say thats what it means.

I'm an immigrant. Immigration sucks *** if you follow the laws and do everything legally - which is what my family is going through right now. Being "American" means, having the power to buy lots of food, being capable of being obese, having "nice" benefits such as medicare, medicaid, and social security, and other than that nothing much really.

Being American means I have all kinds of rights guaranteed in the Constitution. I can travel all over the USA without being stopped at borders and searched. Right now I don't have to carry ID papers. I'm free to write and say opinions without being thrown in jail. As a female, I can wear what I want, have a job, go almost anywhere by myself. I'm not forced to stay at home and be a slave to a male. I have all kinds of wonderful freedoms. I can criticize the government if I feel like it.
I suggest to all the persons bashing America and saying we all killed the indians and we're all fat and lazy, etc., if you hate it so much here, there's a big, huge world out there where you can go and live and be happy and content.
No one is making you stay in a country you so obviously despise. Frankly, I think you are incredibly stupid to stay in a country that makes you so miserable. Go find happiness in France or Canada or anywhere else.

I am AGAINST amnesty, but NOT against immigration!!! I do NOT believe that illegals should be REWARDED by giving them amnesty!! They, after all, have broken our laws, and for that they need to be deported!!! It is UNFAIR to those who have waited, and OBEYED our laws who are trying to come here!!!
I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants coming here, but i DO think there should be a LIMIT on how many come from each country! And,they should be a CONTRIBUTING member, to where they will NOT be a drain on our welfare system.
Americans love THIS country, and are LOYAL to this country!!!
The mexican people that came here many years ago (even the ILLEGALS) had a profound love for their new country!! They blended into OUR society, while keeping their own culture!!! They truly ARE mexican-americans!!! Although, i believe they should be called AMERICAN-Mexicans!!! Because THEIR hearts are in THIS country!! Even THEY are AGAINST the illegals of TODAY,who show such DISREPECT to America and the American people!!!

Immigration is what all that came to this county did. In the beginning, they had hoped to limit who could come in. As far as I'm concerned, except for the natives, all are from another country. Immigration is fine as long as it is done legally. There are legal ways to enter America. A country must protect itself and be able to keep track of who is entering.

Immigration is good for our economy. To be an American you have to be greedy and THINK America is only yours.
I am a citizen of the USA because I was born here, that doesn't make me American, I am still 100% Mexican.
Don't forget where your roots are from!!!

I seriously love all you America bashers. The reason I am against illegal immigration is it is a slap in the face to the many people who come here legally and flourish. Our immigration process may be filled with red-tape, but being it's the law to follow, it's not a personal choice to follow it or not. This is not simply a Mexican issue, many people of all races and religion choose to come here everyday. Personally I welcome them and enjoy their culture; but follow the law.
I am not an immigrant, that argument holds no truth whatsoever. I am of Irish descent, but hold no loyalty to Ireland. I am an American and have proudly served my country as have millions of other veterans before me. We as veterans swore an oath to protect this great country with our lives if need be, for ALL our citizens regardless of color, creed, or nationality.
If your pride lies in your heritage so much that you would march through American streets in protest, carrying a foreign flag, then go back to your country and do what our forefathers did, fight and die to make a better place for your children. But don't come here demanding rights that aren't yours to begin with. I equate that with children laying on the ground and screaming because mommy and daddy won't give them what they want.
If my government refuses to protect our borders, then maybe the citizens should, but shooting a family of immigrants is illegal, so we sit and put up with your bullshi*.
Illegal is illegal, period. I wish to extend my hand in welcome to all people who wish to be American citizens, but through the proper channels please.
insocal: you're exactly the kind of degenerate I'm talking about. If America is so bad, go live in Mexico. I'm sure they would love another freeloading pig.

Immigration is great when done legally.
Love, kindness, freedom. Every time i come home and get through customs it's like a weight has been lifted. No country on earth has such friendly people. If you haven't been there to experience it for your self don't talk you don't know!!

Everyone is an immigrant. To be American, you have to be fat, lazy, and brainwashed. Oh and hate anyone who is from the Middle East, because that clearly makes them a terrorist.
