Just read this in the paper: DONNA, TX - Bandits shot hundreds of rounds of automatic gunfire at Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputies and Border Patrol agents Wednesday fromthe Mexican side of the Rio Grande. ... "This is one of the reasons that I do not allow my deputies to patrol the riverbanks or levees close to the river", Trevino said, "because we do know there are drug gangs and human trafficking gangs that will not hesitate to shoot in our direction to get us out of the area."

So .. if the sheriff is understaffed and under equipped to patrol the area ... that means that that stretch of river is totally unpatrolled ... and can we expect our government to issue a strong protest to Mexico, and demand they keep their thugs under control? Dream on ....

It seems like the worlds super power is incapable of dealing with Mexico there have been many incident's, America never responds maybe it's the fact the drug dealers also want a better life. The national guard should be deployed there with full rights to do whatever is required to protect our borders but Bush can't even get all the guard there he said would be there to secure the border. The country seems helpless when it comes to Mexico. Maybe we should rename Mexico, Iraq and things could get done.

That is getting to be a really dangerous part of Texas. I spent 2 years in RV parks in Donna and got tired of hearing the automatic weapons fire at 3AM.

There have been a number of MS-13's arrested in the Donna area because they seem to prefer crossing the river in that area. The Border Patrol even arrested 2 of the top Maras from Guatemala about a year and a half ago, right in downtown Donna.

I have found that, when I talk about how dangerous it's getting along the border and down into Mexico, people are so ready to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about... but those same "Experts" usually don't speak a word of Spanish and they don't follow the news from along the Border or the stories about the thugs that is on the news on HITN or Univision every night.

Now, I know all about what the U.S. and Mexican Gubbernments TELL us about how the fighting is just between the little drug lords who are trying to be the big drug lords now that the REALLY big drug lords are locked away...

I know how they say American's aren't targets, etc... but that doesn't explain the Americans who have been shot accidentally in the last few years... or the Americans who have been kidnapped (Mexico is number one for kidnappings for money in the world)... or the rapes and murders... But then... I suppose the 'experts' don't know about it because the CBS Evening New and FOX News don't carry stories about these incidents in the Lingua Americana... like the more than 400 headless bodies found along the border in 2005.!

I used to go to Mexico in the winter time, but I'm very reluctant to take my Motor Home down there any longer. There is some scary stuff going on at the border and I know I can travel safely once I'm 100 miles from the border... but I can also get very dead in that first 100 miles.

This is the first that I have heard about this, you know what strikes me is that if the Hidalgo county Sheriff and his deputies were to fire back, the whole of Mexico and the Bush administration would be so outraged and ticked off. I could hear CNN (liberal news station) (my opinion) now, demanding that the sheriff should lose his job and he's no better than the minute men ~whom they think are vigilantes~
I just love how this country friggin works...I'm thinking it's time to move to the dang North Pole....

On Link TV (a channel-I am sure they have a web-I haven't look for it but will) they had a documentary called 'Walking the Line". Everyday people who have to keep loaded guns in their front room or kitchen "in case of". They are shot at often by people crossing. And they worry constantly. It is hard to believe that people live like this and our Government will not help. It was live feed showing some being shot at. I wish they would show this on every station every hour. To get it through to the knuckleheads out there-this is not right. And they praise the Minutemen for their help-since many won't help.
I say it is time to arm them with what ever they need--nice is not working. By the way they also have warehouses full of confiscated guns and drugs taken from attempts over.

That border should be protected by armed National guards and they should be able to respond with with brutal force, soon their will be shoot outs on our streets if they are not stoped, Bush should be impeached for not protecting the American people from drug lords.
P.S I also agree with ( ma900rk)

One reason we need the armed military on that border. The National Guard should be armed and should be able to respond with as much force as necessary to stop those invaders.
