I was wondering why gun control is supported so much today in America. From an etymological/syntactic approach to the Constitution (I am a linguist) you can't really get by saying the Constitution only permits miltitias to have guns. That clause is explanatory at best, and adds to the powers at worst (certainly not a restrictive clause.) Also I don't think that more gun control lowers gun-related crime rates (at least that's what I have heard/seen studyings concluding that.) Also it is your own responsibility to protect yourself (think New Orleans - no police force after Hurricane). Furthermore, what happens when somebody like Hitler takes over? He did it legally in Germany, and he openly admitted to restricting gun ownership rights in Germany to avoid an armed struggle related to his takeover. Could someone please expand the the prior issues from an objective (<== key world there) standpoint.

OK.

Here is a condition that I, as a pro-choice liberal, can accept:

Therapeutic abortion can be outlawed, BUT, if the child is either put up for adoption OR if the father misses even one child support payment he must, by law, by force if needed, be immediately and permanently surgically castrated. If you want to stop abortion, let men pay a price comensurate to that paid by women.

I'll go for that. How about you?

In my discussions with my parents, both aged 45ish, I have found, that when I mention Socialism, or Communism, they label it as a evil.

I blame this on Cold War propaganda, the problem is, due the fact for the foreseeable future, these ideas will continue to squelch things like, Universal Heath Care, Public Utilities, Free Secular and Public Schooling (Including University), will continue to be perceived as bad.

I would willingly, pay 60-80% of my income, along with most of the people in my generation I know, to be assured of those 3 things at top Quality. However these are things only the Government can implement, and in doing so would be labeled Socialist.

So why is it that if a government tried to implement these things as the NDP did in Ontario in the 1980's, they are immediately condemned by, the people, the businesses, and the government.

My ex boyfriend and his family are crazy and are saying they will get a restraining order on me. He has been texting me, and picking fights with me, and unfortunately I have bickered back. He's been trying to get with me, and in the past I have tried to tell this new girlfriend of his about it and apparantly she got my number blocked (even though I've only called her like 3 times total). Today they are especially mad at me because I got him in some trouble with his wrestling coach because I told on him for smoking pot at school!!!
So basically, what I want to know is: If they get a restraining order put on me on grounds of "harrassment", does this mean that if we happened to be at the same place, I would have to leave? Or would HE have to leave? And is it possible that his crazy mother could make it to where I have to change schools???
Don't worry, I have already decided that even if there's no order put into action, I will have NO contact with him whatsoever no matter WHAT.

Be honest:

Would you risk your life in a war zone on the other side of the
world?

Is the "war on terror" worth dying for?

Do you believe the cause is really worth it?
(billions in debt money, hundreds of thousands of dead people)

Would you risk your life and health to support Bush & Cheney?

Do some research into what you are really fighting for:

Valerie Plame is doing the talk show and liberal news show rounds, pitching her new book. Why don't the victims of sHrillery's misuse of FBI files get a "lotto" payoff? Why are the same people who went berserk about the outing of a liberal and democratic activist, from her admin job in the CIA, the same people who apologized for Hillary's wrong doing, stealing FBI file on political opponents.

Why is Packwood bad and Clinton good?
Why are whistle blowers on dems (Paula Jones, Linda Tripp) bad while John Dean the "blow boy" a hero?

Do you see a consistent pattern here?

It is said that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and this has never been truer than in the case of Cheney. What Cheney is doing behind his shield of secrecy can be simply defined: planning and implementing a preemptive war of aggression. (Iraq, Iran) During the Nuremberg tribunal in the aftermath of World War II, the chief American prosecutor, Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, stated, “To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.” Today, we have a vice president who articulates publicly about global conflict, and who speaks in not-so-veiled language about a looming Armageddon. If there is such a future for America and the world, let one thing be certain; World War III, as postulated by Dick Cheney, would be an elective war, and not a conflict of tragic necessity. This makes the crime even greater.
