My question is, once I have completed medical school, can I serve accredited residency in the US Air Force?

Yes, the Air Force has residencies in several large medical centers. The air force has some unusual residencies. For example the general surgery residency at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio is a joint program with 5 different hospitals. Residents get rotations in all 5 hospitals.

I beg to differ with my navy colleague. I don't believe rank is faster in the navy.

Yes, there are physicians in all branches who do residency training at the various medical centers of their respective service. I believe the Air Force does that at Malcolm Grow, Andrews AFB, Maryland; Wilford-Hall at Lackland AFB, Texas; and David Grant, Travis AFB, California. However, you should check with an Air Force officer recruiter for up-to-date information.
