ALL branches have a significant presence outside the continental United States. If you never want to deploy OCONUS, then do NOT enlist. period.

The Coast Guard is now part of Homeland Security, may be more difficult to get into if you are not a citizen, although they do need more enlistments, If not the Coast Guard, try the Navy, by serving in the Navy it could be a way to become a citizen through your service to the military, if that is what you want to do. Both are good but, everything depends upon whether either will take you, being a non-citizen & what an investigation about you turns up in their reports.

Christa K is an idiot, the Air Force basic is like 8 weeks now, and they are getting deployed alot more now, because the army is low on personnel they are getting a lot of "in lieu of taskings" and deploying with the army. There is no branch of the service who has a better chance of staying stateside at the moment, everyone is deploying even the Coast Guard.

the coast guard doesnt deploy to iraq as much but still deploys to sea and various island around the US. other than that the air force and marines only have 6 month tours where the army has 12-18 month tours but have a little more time at home befor you deploy again. if your worried about being called up maybe the military is not for you.

Don't join if you are not willing to go overseas. My husband is in the national guard which is supposed to be one weekend a month, two weeks a year. He has been deployed for most of the last 3 years including 18 months in Iraq. He does not regret anything though. He loves being in the military and we support him fully!

um all these people saying AF obviously are misinformed....my husband has done 3 rotations in iraq in the last 3 years......hes never been home more than 6 months in between. and his rotations werent 2 months the first was 8 and the 2nd and 3rd were 6 mos each. plus during his 10 years hes done 1 year in korea, 1 year in guam and 3 in japan. The AF definitely does NOT have a better chance of staying stateside.

none.. The Coast Guard deploys just as often as the Navy, they just get to stay in the United States most of the time.. any other service runs the risk of being deployed to Iraq or in support of OEF.

Daughters of the American Revolution.
DO NOT join the military, even the Coast Guard if you don't want to leave the U.S. The military is not a social program or a domestic disaster relief program. They send you where they need you.
