I'm writing a novel and wondering: if you shoot and kill someone, how do they decide whether you acted in self defense or if it was premeditated? Thanks

As I understand it, once you are actually arrested, you have the right to an attorney, but if you are simply picked up for questioning, how long can they hold you (if you don't want to or can't answer the police's questions)? Do you have to be arrested to ask for an attorney?
Please note: I'm just curious! (I've never been arrrested, or even close!)

I am an Army reservist. I found out last weekend I was pregnant. This will be my second child. With my first pregnancy my unit did not counsel or advise me when I was pregnant. In fact my unit did not know the first thing to do. I never received maturnaity uniforms and was told I had to wear my PT uniform even when it became tight. I was sent to drivers training at 6 months. When I returned to drill after 3 months I was told that needed to particpate in a PT test. My husband is in the Navy reserves. I spend more for child care for one weekend than what I make at drill. This pregnancy I want to know what my options are. Can I separate from the reserves with an honarable discharge? Where can I find the information to present to my unit? Are there other guidelines I should know about and where can I think them?
Thank you.

Is there no depth the neocon party won't go to in their attacks against all that is good and decent in America?

...that 12 year old boy who spoke out about President Bush's veto of the SChip program was first condemned by the conservative extremists and he is now receiving death-threats! Are we so politically-biased in this country that we have to attack children for speaking their minds?

If money were no object, how would you reorganize the criminal justice system so that it would deal more equitably with all people in this country?

For me, I'd say:

Best: The forming of the United States Constitution in 1776. It is the longest living documentation of government, and it's the reason why America is here today.

Worst: The American Civil War. Though it redefined our nation and partially led us to the 50 United States, the losses and the history behind it is extremely sad. State against state. City against city. Brother against brother.

These are just my thoughts. What about yours? Please do NOT have answers that come on the year 2000 - present. A lot of people would say the "War on Terror, 9/11, Bush Administration, etc, etc" for worst events.

I don't want a "political" war and a debate. Just friendly interaction and opinions on history that occurred from 1999 - past.

I am already a registered republican so this does not worry me, but there are many Democrats that are finding presidential candidate Ron Paul's message so powerful that they want to vote for him. He may get enough people that would WANT to vote for him, but if they don't change their party affiliation before the deadline, which is being kept more secret than public, then they won't be able to switch and vote for him. This would definitely affect the turnout for Ron Paul. I just found out about the New Hampshire deadline today, and the deadline is today. It doesn't affect me, because I don't live in New Hampshire and I am already registered republican, but what about people that are democrat and want to switch, but can't because they did not hear of the deadline in time. I read that the deadlines were put into place a week before the deadlines even happen. Also, the deadlines are not being publicized to much. Looks like the neocons might win this one.
