Yes, you may join the US Army (or any other military group) if you LIVE in the U.S., even if you are a citizen of another country. If you want to become a citizen, your military service can help you to do that ... and THANK YOU for wanting to join!

Yes - You can join any branch of the US military. You will just be limited on your job choices. There are between 10 and 20 jobs in each branch that you could choose from as a Non-US citizen. If you join, start working through the State Department or INS to gain US citizenship (if you desire to do so). As a military member, the process won't take as long to complete. Once you gain citizenship, you'll be able to cross-train into other specialties.

You do not have to be a citizen of the US to enlist in the army.

Administrative Requirements
a. CITIZENSHIP: Applicant is eligible for enlistment if any of the following apply:

Citizen of the United States.
Alien who has been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
National of the United States.
Citizens (to include naturalized citizens) of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).

Hope this helps.

I think non-citizens can join the military; think I saw a person or two in the Army decades ago who was in that situation.

I believe that the only way you can do it is to move here and get a green card that allows you to live and work in the USA.
But I would check in with the US Immigration first.

Thanks for wanting to serve.

Absolutely, yes. There are many non-Americans in the U. S. Army. There was a story in the paper a few months ago about many of them becoming naturalized citizens.

Yes if you have a green card, but if your illegal than No, you have to be a US citizen. If you apply to get your citizenship then yes. But until then, you can't join any branch of the military reserve or active duty!

if you are not a Legal Permanent Resident of the US, you may not enlist. There is no way around the Green card requirement ,and the military cannot and will not help you to move here or to get one.

If you are here legally, I believe they will let you join Active, and the time you serve will count very favorably to the time it takes to become a U.S. citizen.
