This is for the Guard, so I get in my contract which language I want. I have the scores.

Hello ML,

Congratulations on taking the DLAB.

I recommend selecting Arabic, simply, because the Arabic language is spoken by more countries than Farsi/Persian.

Iran, for the most part, is the only country that uses Farsi/Persian, as its main language.

Although you may have some input on which language you take at DLI, there are other considerations that have higher precedence.

First will be your DLAB score. You need a 110 to be eligible to take a CAT IV language, and a 105 for a CAT III language. If you score between 105 and 109, you will be eligible for Persian/Farsi, but you'll need the 110 for Arabic.

Second is availability. You might arrive at DLI at a time where only Arabic is classing up. If a class for Persian/Farsi won't be available for an inordinate amount of time, then your chances of getting P/F are fairly slim.

Third is "Needs of the service." But since you are talking about deciding between Arabic and Persian/Farsi, that won't come into play as both are needed.

you may not have a choice in the matter, they may tell you you are taking Mandarin or Korean when you get to Monterey. basically, what language you get is primarily based on what classes are filling up the day you arrive.
