One definition of a god, is, a very handsome man. So I believe that should answer your question.

Obviously you must have had a bad contact with a police officer. Most cops don't believe they are Gods, and they are not. Cops are people just like you. They do a job that most people would not do and for little pay and respect. When there is trouble, the police are the first ones you will call for help. They come running regardless of the danger to their own lives. They stay and deal with the problems most people only read about in the morning paper. They work hours protecting life and property while most people sleep. The next cold winter night when you wake up to get a drink of water from the bathroom sink, stop and think about it, someone is driving your streets and ready to respond if there is a problem. Give them a break, they probably already gave you one and you don't even realize it.

Do you have any idea how lucky you are to live in a safe country where human rights are respected? Perhaps some cops in police states (like Burma) think they are gods, but here in Australia they have very limited powers and are underpaid, yet they put their lives on the line to keep us safe. If our cops sometimes display a defensive attitude, it's probably because the public has such negative views of them. Perhaps you should do yourself a favour and travel to a country like South Africa (which has one of the highest crime rates in the world) and experience the fear those people live with every day; where most burglars rape and kill the occupants of the homes they invade and people are murdered on the street, in broad daylight, for a wallet or a mobile phone.
(A quick grammar lesson: (1) "they're" is short for "they are" (2) there are NO words in the English language which are apostrophied in the plural)

It takes a special person to go out there everyday to protect the community from jerks who would rather blow someone's head off for the joy of it. When a police officer leaves home, to go to work, every day - they take a big chance of never seeing their family ever again. The world is dangerous; these people know this but at least they are out there trying to change things for the better.
I once had a neighbor who's husband decided he wanted to be a police officer. During one of his training classes he was told the true meaning of P.I.G.; pride, integrity and guts.
It's just too bad criminals don't have pride in themselves and guts enough to do the right thing.

In general I agree wtih DogLover here, but....
I don;t think he should equate law enforcement with Biblical "peacemakers". Unless he wants to do his job the way "peacemakers" did in Biblical times.
Moder law enforcement is a fairly recent invention.
Ever notice that, even though they did insert the 4 Amendment in the Bill of Rights, our Fouding Fathers and other contemporaries never wrote about police forces as we know them now?
Because they didn't exist, several thousand years AFTER the Bible.
I don't begrudge dogLover his faith or religion, but even he will realize that teh Bible wasn't speaking about modern law enforcement officers, as the asker was, if it took several thousand year later for it to come into existence!

I know quite a few cops. I work with them on a daily basis. And I don't think they all think they are God. But I have met a couple who do think this of themselves and in the end they get themselves into trouble and loose their jobs. So keep in mind those cops who think their God....God eventually takes it away.....

cops are human they make mistakes or bad judgments, some should have never got into the profession because they abuse their position. I respect authority but not stupidity and some cops and other people can be stupid don't you agree. I think most of them are pretty special

Do you mean?
a) Why do Cops think they are Gods? As in that they are deities.
b) Why do Cops think they are God's? As in that cops believe they are the property of God.
c) Why do Cops think there is a God? As in what religious experience led the Cop to believe in God.
Until you construct a basic sentence I will be unable to help you.

If there is NOTHING speacial about "us" then why is EVERYONE so caught up with talking about us on here and in the media DAY AND NIGHT? WHY? Because we are respected, maybe not well liked....but I think you all are wrong for stereotyping Law enforcement Officers on the basis of what you see on TV or a story you read in the paper. I welcome ANY civilians to come on a ride-along with me and experience a day in the life of a law officer.....I actually enjoy taking civilians on ride-alongs, we learn from eachother.....listen guys, all of this bashing on the Police leads NOWHERE....."WE" don't hate the general public, contrary to the consensus on this site, and IT IS an "US" versus "THEM" mentality nowadys...but I STRONGLY feel its brought on by misinformation, lopsided media, and angry people who have had a bad experience with the Police......when you judge me on the basis of what a few of my "colleagues" do, and criticize myself or my brothers and sisters in law enforcement, I WILL stand up for them, because 99% of us are good and face the challenges and obstacles that you don't want to deal with head on. I PROBABLY do make LESS money than you, yes I have a college education, yes I have emotions, yes I bleed red, yes I too have made mistakes, no I do not think I'm above the law, no, I'm not better than you, yes I care about how you perceive me on the job, yes it does hurt me to hear you badmouth me and my "brethren," and no, I'm colorblind when it comes to enforcing the laws of the great state of Florida. I knew I would never make alot of money in this profession, and I also knew that I would put up with alot of grief.....yet, I STILL chose to go to college.....all so I could serve my country, state, community......all to serve YOU.

Lets see....in general they are state employees so the pay sucks rocks.....they work long hours - nights, weekends, holidays- 24/7 -365 a year....they miss important events in the lives of their children b/c they have to work...Heck, they miss important events in the lives of lots of their family b/c they have to work....they frequently have to work extra jobs (like the security you see at football games - they do this on their day off) to earn extra money - goes back to that whole pay sucks thing...they put their lives on the line to keep you and me safe, how many times do you hear about bad guys having better weapons than the cops (lots).....they have to put up with crappy attitudes like yours........they have to put up with a society that is increasingly looking at authority figures with disrespect...........oh, and just cause that's not enough...many are also members of the military reserves/national guard so quite a few got shipped off to Iraq to get shot at there......and they do this because they want to- because of a desire to serve..
Oh and we can't forget........ they look hot in the uniforms (yummy).
So, I think there is something quite special about them.

First of all, they are responding to a 'call' when deciding to go into a career in law enforcement. Ever heard of that loud, drawn out call used by farmers to bring in their swine livestock? They're not related calls, of course. I simply love the pun.
There is, indeed, something special about cops. They can be dangerous and should be avoided. Why do they say not to give them a reason to stop us? Would they otherwise want to stop us? Because they are curious and mistrustful by nature. Life is mostly about catching 'bad guys'.
I'd also like to present a hypothetical: who wants to be friends or associate with a person who is 100% aware of their service weapon at all times? Another cop. Duh.
Just obey the laws as best as you can, don't make eye contact, and they'll probably leave you alone. Unfortunately, they are special, in a desperately negative way.
Bring on the thumbs down, whoop-whoop!
