Powell's Chief of Staff Proposes Impeachment
By David Swanson
AfterDowningStreet.com

Thursday 10 May 2007

On Thursday, May 10, 2007, Lawrence Wilkerson, speaking on National Public Radio, proposed impeaching President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Wilkerson is a Retired Army Colonel, the former Chief of Staff at the State Department from 2002 to 2005 under then Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Vietnam War veteran, the former Acting Director of the Marine Corps War College at Quantico, and currently a teacher of national security at William and Mary College.

You compare Bill Clinton's peccadilloes for which he was impeached to George Bush's high crimes and misdemeanors or Dick Cheney's high crimes and misdemeanors, and I think they pale in significance."

Ashbrook asked for some examples of such high crimes and misdemeanors, and Wilkerson replied: "I think that the caller was right. I think we went into this war for specious reasons. I think we went into this war not too much unlike the way we went into the Spanish American War with the Hearst press essentially goading the American people and the leadership into war. That was a different time in a different culture, in a different America. We're in a very different place today and I think we essentially got goaded into the war through some of the same means."

My husband retired years ago, and I am really out of the loop. I do a mega-shop at the commissary every few months. I want to tip fairly generously, but I don't know what a good tip is nowadays.

I'd like to hear from both shoppers who are in the loop and from baggers. Thanks!

I'm also on the Do Not Call list and may seek a Federal remedy. The same question aplliies what is the statute that I can cite? How much can I sue for each call received?

I appointed a former coal exec to oversee mine safety and a former Exxon CEO to solve our energy crisis.
Now I am nominating Michael Baroody, who has lobbied for 13 years against product safety laws, to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission. - George W. Bush

All the success in the Northern Ireland is being attributed to Blair. Wasn't it Mo Mowlem who went into the Maize Prison while everyone else was tucked up somewhere safe. Was she only there to take the blame if it all went pear shaped?

So Big Oil leases drilling rights and is required to pay the rent(so to say)

The Government has a Minerals Managment office that audits mines and oil production and bills them. (Pay their rent)

Under the Bush administration this office was "reorganized" and Oil Companies now do not have to pay their rent. For drill rigs on Federal lands or in US Coastal Waters.

The accountants that billed the Oil Rigs got fired for asking for the rent check. Then when the Court ruled that Oil had to pay their bills like everyone else. The Ag's office said we should not be required to actually collect the rent from Big Oil.

So it's only a billion dollars outstanding. That's nothing.

Will free speech soon be a thing of the past

If you are critical of the President will you be branded a terrorist ?

How long will it be until - "certain" things are ilegal to say for the sake of your security ?

If that were to happen would you believe you lived in a facist state or just think the President is trying to protect you ?

would you agree to pay taxes to fund this unfunded mandate?
I was thinking that if schools could actually fund the No Child Left Behind project, less taxes might be spent in all other areas of social welfare eventually because all people would be required to get a good education to begin with. What do you think.

Also, for those of you who think you have never used social welfare, if you received an education in public schools you certainly have.

In fact it was Bush Sr. who reduced our military, signed off on by a Republican Congress and Sec Def Cheney. President Bush Sr. had already said publicly that the proposed FY 1990 Defense budget of more than $300 billion had to be cut immediately by $6.3 billion, and soon after Cheney began work the president increased the amount to $10 billion.

I mean, Shouldn't we have our soldiers here in America fighting against dictatorship forces and make America a Democracy once and for all?

When Republicans want our kids to go fight for their oil profits they say "We are bringing democracy to Iraq".

When we say the Republican Party should respect the will of the people they say "We are not a democracy, we are a republic"

If America is not a democracy then I think we should have our soldiers here at home making it a democracy first.

Sorry, you can't have it both wats whenever it's at your convience.

Are we a democracy or not?

Obama seems to be the "hope of the next generation" He is a charismatic figure and people just seem to gravitate to him. Yes he does lack "experience" what ever that means. (from the looks of it, all the experience in the world didn't seem to do GW Bush any good) But many ppl think he is the breath of fresh air that politics in america needs right now. Problem: He is black!!!!!! No, this is not the "race card" by the way, i never got mine in the mail. but if Obama were white, he would be a shoo-in. Dont you think? I just think that there are just some white americans who will vote for a dog before they vote for a N-word, as it is so lovingly tossed around. What do you think?
