Thursday 10 May 2007

On Thursday, May 10, 2007, Lawrence Wilkerson, speaking on National Public Radio, proposed impeaching President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Wilkerson is a Retired Army Colonel, the former Chief of Staff at the State Department from 2002 to 2005 under then Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Vietnam War veteran, the former Acting Director of the Marine Corps War College at Quantico, and currently a teacher of national security at William and Mary College.

You compare Bill Clinton's peccadilloes for which he was impeached to George Bush's high crimes and misdemeanors or Dick Cheney's high crimes and misdemeanors, and I think they pale in significance."

Ashbrook asked for some examples of such high crimes and misdemeanors, and Wilkerson replied: "I think that the caller was right. I think we went into this war for specious reasons. I think we went into this war not too much unlike the way we went into the Spanish American War with the Hearst press essentially goading the American people and the leadership into war. That was a different time in a different culture, in a different America. We're in a very different place today and I think we essentially got goaded into the war through some of the same means."

Simply, "When President Bush commits an offense punishable by impeachment then he should be impeached. However, he has not committed any impeachable offenses. Quit trying to play political games and further divide the country Colonel." The Colonel appears to be spewing comments without presenting a single ounce of evidence. Everything that the President did in regards to the decision to go to war was legal and within his legitimate authority and with the consent of congress. I note that Wilkerson is a retired Colonel and not a retired General. He appears to trying to spin his opinion as truth. I too am a retired military officer and I will maintain faith in our president until PROVEN facts which rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors are presented. Shame on the Colonel for playing politics and trying to further divide the country with baseless opinions and innuendos.

My response to Colonel Wilkerson would be that despite his impressive credentials, his answer to Ashbrook was unresponsive.

It sounds as if he would also argue that President McKinley should have been impeached because he allowed himself to be "goaded" into the Spanish-American War by Congress, William Randolph Hearst's brand of "yellow journalism," and the American people, who allowed themselves to be stirred up by Hearst. Those are "high crimes and misdemeanors"?

Hardly.

Send him to the VA mental ward. And from reading your post, the guy gave no reason that impeachment was valid. Another idiot getting his 15 minutes of fame. Move along folks, nothing to see.

This is hilarious. Asked for examples of "high crimes and misdemeanors," this political clown [he may have been military once, but he's political now] couldn't do it.

He reminds me of Weasley Clark.

A pox on people like him.
