Will free speech soon be a thing of the past

If you are critical of the President will you be branded a terrorist ?

How long will it be until - "certain" things are ilegal to say for the sake of your security ?

If that were to happen would you believe you lived in a facist state or just think the President is trying to protect you ?

What a great question! I don't believe we will ever reach the point of imprisonment, However, I do believe that we will get damn close. I believe that we will reach a point where we realize the direction we are heading in is very dangerous and rather then leveling out we will go to an extreme in the opposite direction. America never does anything in a simple way. I think it will be as scary as the thought of losing our rights. perhaps more so. Complete Chaos

Let's hope that something like that never happens. If it does it would be as you said, living in a facist state. I don't think it could happen. Bush might want it to happen, but luckily we do have a senate and a house who would never let such a thing happen. yes, the president does have veto power, but for something like this, the house and the senate can over ride a veto. The people of this country do have some say in how this country is run and there are some things that they would not stand for. We have had to put up with a lot that has been inacted for what is supposed to be for our protection, but.... free speech is in the constitution and somethings cannot be tampered with.

As uncomplicated as that sounds, the Iranian president is contained in usa on a diplomatic passport and visa to bypass to the United countries. he's immune from all civil or criminal costs.

Criticism is legal, but subversive words and actions are another . And many of you are walking a fine line .

EDIT* - Ya know, I just had to come back and add something . The President's term ends in about a year and a half, and realistically he'll be a lame duck much sooner than that . So what is your problem ? Paranoia as one person suggested ?

I have heard that in certain areas of the country, especially where the president is speaking, there are already what they call free speech zones. From what I have heard, they are tiny little areas that are far enough away from the president, that he is protected from any dissent! These so called free speech zones, are a farce, and a slap in the face to Americans in every city and state! *sm*

well, tho for the first 2 or 3 yrs after 9/11 any critique of the Bush admin was tantamount to treason the national atmosphere as changed and i think we can breath easy again for awhile. the "unitary presidency" has been effectively neutered, just limping along until they're terms are up or they're impeached. only the 28 Percenters still scream "traitor! traitor!" when you perform your patriotic duty protesting presidential corruption.

GWB has already taken away our freedom of privacy that was obtained by Roe v. Wade - it isn't about abortion as so many continue to think - it was the PRIVACY issue. They took away our US Constitutionally guaranteed rights without anyone even giving any "back talk" so how long do you think it would take them to take away our freedom of speech? If GWB has his way, we would have a US Constitution that would be "revamped" to be the way society lives these days instead of the way the founding fathers wanted it to be. It is best for every man, woman, and child in this land we call America to impeach GWB and do it immediately!

George W. Bush has come perilously close to turning our country into a police state, where citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent. Anti-Bush protesters are not allowed to demonstrate within camera range whenever Bush is speaking publicly.
As in George Orwell's book, "1984", it's only a matter of time before our 'crack' Department of Homeland Security creates its own "thought police" division where it will intrude not only on what citizens SAY, but what they WRITE or THINK about! -RKO- 05/12/07
