Since Reagan left office, the media (not just the news, either) and the public have been much more quick to use the person in office as the butt of jokes, getting cheap laughs at the expense of the US President.

I think this is wrong. In a country that is almost evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, it stands to reason that regardless of who is in office, AT LEAST half of the people in the country aren't going to like its occupant. In the case of our current president, it's a LOT more than half.

But the office of the President of the United States of America commands respect. Even if you don't like who's in there, the office commands respect.

Are you appalled by how cheaply you or someone you know hurls insults? What ever happened to the good old days where even if you disagreed, you did so respectfully?

Check out the Yahoo Answers’ political section on any given day and you’ll find question after question and answer after answer accusing liberals of being un-American and hating America. To criticize the president because one disagrees with his policies is anything but unpatriotic. As our forefathers pointed out, political discourse is the backbone of democracy. Even Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican president proclaimed:

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Conservatives will vigorously fight to defend the Second Amendment, even to their deaths. Yet they ridicule and mock any citizen who exercises the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Isn’t this the ultimate hypocrisy?

I read the con handbook.

It said to buy a ribbon. Put it on your car.

Tell everyone you know you support the war.

It says once you do this America will become a safer place to live.

Anyone feeling the effects of my patriotic work?

For those of you that believe it was a conspiracy I need these questions answered. It would have taken weeks to prep the twin towers for demolition. Wouldn't people have noticed the noise and explosives and missing girders? Wouldn't that stuff have been kinda tough to sneak by security? If a plane did not hit the Pentegon, how do you explain the witnesses that saw a plane? What happened to that flight and the people on board? It is not easy to make an entire plane to vanish. How did we get the terrorist to take credit for it and what would they have to gain by falsely claiming they did it? Finally, we have a very hard time keeping secrets. Thousands of people would have to be involved to pull this off. How do we keep them all quiet?

I am a legal permanent resident and I would like to become a US citizen. Actually, I would like to be a dual citizen, since you cannot renounce the nationality of the country where I used to live, and also because I don't want to renounce it.

The US State Department says that dual nationality is permitted and that "dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country."

On the other hand, I have to take the oath of allegiance, which says "I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen".

Aren't these two statements contradictory?
Wouldn't it be unethical to take the oath?

I would appreciate serious answers.

I'm currently off work on long term sick, and have just been signed off again for 2 weeks for stress and a recent bereavement. My current employers have had to postpone an investgatory meeting (involving HR and my Manager) regarding my work but now they are saying that they are going ahead with the meeting even though I'm still off sick. They have asked me to attend the meeting even though I have told them I'm not fit to. They have now asked me to provide either written documentation to answers they are asking for or for me to be included in a telephone conference on the day. What can I do about this as its really stressing me out? Also I really want to make a complaint regarding my Manager should i pursue this ahead now I know of this?

Recently walking into a local sports bar, I noted a challenged man with a cane inspecting a car parked in handicap w/o a tag. He began shouting "this ba$tard has no tag. A real handicap needs this spot!". I suggested he spit on the car to teach the rude person a lesson. However, the handicapped man stated he did not want to vandalize the car.

1 hour later I walked outside again and heard a hissing sound. I turn over and the handicapped man's cane is on the ground & he is letting the air out of the tires with a pen. He had no concern about people walking in or out seeing him. Furthermore, he did not stop at just one tire, he went on to deflate 3 of them. On the 3rd one, the pen snapped the stem of the tire causing the tire to deflate immediately.

Personally I agree with what he did (so did about 15 others giving him accolades) and told him that he was delivering 'citizens justice'.

My question - is this man within his handicapped rights to commit such an action?

A radio report says a member of the Israeli government has resigned after pushing for equal rights in Israel for non Jews. A retaliatory investigation commenced against that member, Busharif (sp). Most charges have been dropped. Some citizens are now calling Israel fascist and racist.

Israel is called a "Jewish Democratic State". Jews traveling from the US to settle have more rights under the "Law of Return" than non-Jewish people who are born there. For non-Jews, living in Israel is called a "Catastrophic Existence".

Without anger or suspicion, please explain how non-Jewish people can have equal rights in Israel and what systems are in place to help them. Thank you.

Every time a celeb has the audacity to have an opinion, suddenly cons act like the celebrity is suddenly an expert whose opinion should be taken so seriously that the cons have to dig and scratch to come up with reasons why that expert isn't credible.

Meanwhile, rational people know they're JUST CELEBRITIES and should usually be ignored.

Does this amaze everyone, or just me?
