One of the major achievement is turning and sustaining the country in equilibrium.

Japan is perhaps the only country where most of the citizens consider themselves the middle-class. With few exceptions, the spread between the poor and the wealthy is relatively small. Even the CEO's of major corporations do not earn disproportional amount of money. Unlike the US, you won't find a large number of billionaire, or a large number of ultra-poor.

Also, the illiteracy rate is far less than one percent, which in my opinion, has much to do with all-middle-class status.

Rebounding after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, maintaining and economically strong middle class society w/o immense disparities in wealth, abating foreign powers without a military, maintaining an extremely high literacy rate, providing their population very good quality of consumer goods.
