During Bush's campaign he would always emphasize "there will be no draft" at his $1000(or more) a plate dinners.

The draft is a bad idea for many reasons. The biggest reason is that people who get drafted do not want to be there. They bring a negative attitude and bad behavior into the military, and it reflects in their training and ultimately in how they do their job in combat. This is a lose lose situation for the draftee and the soldiers that depend on him/her to watch their backs.

A volunteer military is just that... VOLUNTEERS! They know what they are getting into when they sign on the dotted line... AND THEY SIGN ANYWAY!!

I'm sure that there are a bunch of rich kids that would not consider the military as a career. They are self centered and that does not make for a good soldier. The flip side is that I'm sure that there are children of "privilege" out there fighting for our freedom right now, you just don't hear about them because it isn't good news as far as the MSM is concerned.

Well, look at it this way. If you agree on a draft, then you should also agree on going to war when your number is called. That includes rich kids. Especially in the mainstream media era, where a politician who calls for the draft but then keeps his son out will be murdered in the American political system.

If you want a draft, then be prepared to go when called. Don't expect to pass the buck to the next man.

they aren't i don't guess. no more than any other group. there are lot of people afraid of the draft but most of the people know it will only happen as a last resort. and $1,000.00 a plate is not much in the grand scheme. i am sure all major candidates have done the same or more.

Everyone should be afraid of the draft, it downgrades the quality of our Armed Forces, makes the poor work for a living instead of living on welfare, and makes rich college kids officers and leaders of men that they will use to lead our nation into the future.

Actually, our military doesn't want the draft because they don't want to serve with people who don't want to be there..

But, I think if we did, they have been training to teach the IA how to defend themselves.. I don't see it being any harder then training our new citizens to fight in a war.. After all, they should earn their right to the milk and honey as our fore fathers had to.. Just wondering how many of those new citizens would defect ??.. i honestly can see it coming..

I think the fact that we are draft free says a lot about our brave military people. I am from wealth and both my brothers served with dignity and loyalty as career Air Force officers!

You're right, no dem president ever raises money. Stop with the draft idiocy, it will affect wealthy and poor Americans were it to happen, but it won't. So as usual, you really have no point.

Your premise is wrong. The wealthy can get their children a deferment.

"A young man who does not have what it takes to perform military service is not likely to have what it takes to make a living."
- John F. Kennedy

Because they believe like this man did.

"A man may be a patriot without risking his own life or sacrificing his health. There are plenty of lives less valuable." - James Mellon, - who paid $300 for a civil war Union army deferment.
