I really intend no disrespect. I'm from the Northeast and, like a great many other Americans, I don't understand the hold that fundamentalism seems to have over the South.

Yes, we have churches and a few fundamentalists and all that up here too but even those who actually go to church just seem to have a more relaxed attitude about religion here.

This question is posted in "Politics" because I'm greatly interested in politics and religion greatly influences politics, particularly in the South.

As I said, no disrespect intended. I've been a visitor to the South and found Southerners to be gracious and friendly people. I just don't get the religion thing. Can anyone explain?

If it weren't for the invasion of Kuwait,

would you know about Saddam or what he "did to his own people"?

And why did you have to be reminded all these years later for your justification of the new Iraq war?

What was America's interest in Kuwait?

Typically I was a stupid Nineteen year old boy who got caught up rorting a major department store and ended up getting charged for stealing.
When I was younger someone told me as soon as you get a criminal record you have no chance of working overseas? Is this entirely true?
I'm Twenty Four Now, come from a respectable family and good education. Will these things help my cause?
Any comments would be apprecicated.

Why does America tap dance around Iran? They have troops on both sides of Iran, being Iraq and Afghanistan, but just don't seem to have the spine to engage the enemy.

Is America no longer a Super Power and now cowers before China, it's Lord and Master?

Are we not in Afghanistan to stand stalwart against the Chinese agenda of creating destabilzation in the Middle East?

Yes we are, just wondering how many actually knows that; you don't think we are actually in Afghanistan looking for Bin Ladin do you?

Don't forget: The U-2 shot down over the Soviet Union was according to the United Government just a stray, innocent, weather aircraft shot down by godless heathens. That is until the Soviets produced Powers who for reason did not want to bite down on his cyanide capsule given to him by our Government, JEEZ! DOHH!!!~!

They both have missiles aimed at Indian cities.
They both stand to lose out from India's rising superpower status.
They have both fight wars with India.
They both have an anti-Indian alliance in place.
They both have sponsored terrorism and/or seperatist movements within India.
They both are developing their military and often use India as a justification.
They both use simulations of Indian military in their war games
They both use propaganda in their domestic states to keep the public opinion anti-indian.

so who should India be most wary about the most???

If a couple get married in one jurisdiction, then visit another where one or both of them is under the legal age of consent, is it legal for them to have sex in the second jurisdiction, or must they wait until them go home again, or until they move to another jurisdiction where the age of consent permits them to have sex? I'm interested in the answer either in a US or international context, or both. Thanks!

Imus made the comment "nappy headed ho" and there was an open dialogue on speech, yet when the VT tragedy happened it seems that the subject of gun control is a taboo subject. I believe in our right to own one but what can we do to better determine who can possess one and who cannot? There were many clues to the disturbing behavior of the VT killer that should have hampered his attempt to purchase a firearm.
Your thoughts? (intelligent comments only / no right left crap)

With all of the horrors of an invasion that started under false justifications, there have been many victims. Should there be a program where Americans can send support to innocent Iraqis?

And what about a program for destitute US veterans of war and their families?

i think that people who do drunk driving and reckless driving should have worse punishments. if a driver kills other people, they only get a few years in prison while the famliy of the people who die have to suffer for a long time. once the drivers get out of prison, theres nothing stopping them from drinking and driving.

Human Rights First recently released a particularly damning and extremely well-researched report entitled Command's Responsibility. I spent several hours perusing this disturbing analysis of homicides committed by our own government (to further the cause of “spreading freedom and democracy”). A shocking number of alleged enemy combatants have been murdered by the US military and the CIA. Apparently justice vanishes without a trace if one is of Middle Eastern descent and suspected of terrorism.

According to the report, 100 such individuals have died since August of 2002. By the US military’s own admission, 34 of those cases were "suspected or confirmed homicides". Human Rights First determined that the "facts suggest death as a result of physical abuse or harsh conditions of detention" in 11 additional cases. The report also reveals that 8 US detainees "were tortured to death".

3.2 Million Americans lost jobs due to out sourcing.Meaning the jobs closed down here and reopened in another country. The stock exchange shows our economy as good because these companies are doing great in sales and making huge profits because of the cheaper labor overseas. While our unemployment rate is low the people themselves are working lower paying jobs in the service industry. Thus creating many home foreclosures etc.So what do you think of out sourcing?

The FBI arrived at the Virginia home of Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) and his wife Julie last Friday to execute a search warrant pursuant to their investigation of the Doolittle's ties to imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The unfolding scandal surrounding Abramoff has cut a wide swath through Congress, tarnishing former Rep. Tom DeLay, sending Rep. Bob Ney to prison, and filling the courthouse with a line of staffers and aides offering testimony and pleading guilty. Now federal investigators have turned their attention to the Doolittles. They crossed paths with Abramoff on a number of occasions; John Doolittle did favors for Abramoff in his scheme to bilk Native American tribes all the while taking huge campaign contributions from Abramoff and his associates, and Julie's fundraising firm was contracted by Abramoff's sham non-profit the Capital Athletic Foundation. Doolittle has since resigned his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee as the investigation continues.

This is actually about my mom's boss, but it affects me as well. Basically, I babysit my sisters on the weekends so my mom can go out of town for this Karaoke business she's starting. Recently, her boss (from her day job, not the karaoke business) called the county and told them that she received a phone call from my sisters saying that they were left home alone for the weekend. This is a total lie, I've been there with with them every weekend. Long story short, my mom is now facing a possible eviction. I know what her boss did has got to be illegal, but what can be done about it? If it requires a lawyer, we don't have the money for that?
