no, thats a civil dispute. We don't have debtors prison in the US.
Just go to the hospital administration office and tell them you cannot pay or atleast not the full amt. They should have paperwork there for you to file to either expunge the amt. or lessen the fees.
You are guaranteed quality healthcare, regardless of inability to pay.

No.

However, they can put you in jail for "Contempt of Court" for disobeying an Order to pay them.

This cannot happen before a "Show Cause" hearing, where you are brought before the judge to explain why he/she should not do that, such as "I ain't got no dough, Joe."

Not that I'm aware of. Also, as long as you pay "something" towards those bills...even $1.00 a month....they cannot send it to collections. Medical bills are something that are unavoidable...you have to maintain your health, and sometimes these problems come out of the blue when you're not expecting them. Therefore, the laws are different for these types of bills....you can pay them off as slowly as you need to without facing legal troubles. It shows you're at least trying to pay them off.

NO - and you don't have to pay something a month. Millions and Millions of people own medical bills. They understand this is the price for high price health care. If you don't have insurance then the average person can not pay their health care costs.
