Iraq did not start this war, Americans did not, the head of this country did. He wanted Saddam's head on a stick not because of WMD, or the nuanced speeches that linked him with 9/11 or imminent mushroom cloud. It was to get back at Saddam for his 1994 plot to assassinate his daddy. Saddam wanted Bush's daddy because he felt he had been betrayed by his "friends" who had supplied him weapons in the 80's during the Iran-Iraq war, and Bush 41 after Gulf War 1 told the Shi'ite and the Kurds to rise up we'll support you and the US never did. so goes the vicious cycle.
To the person talking about violations of UN security resolutions as the reason we had to attack- the country with the highest number of UN security council violations- Israel with 32 followed by Turkey with 23. Violations that started from 1968. So the UN violations were not a good enough excuse.
To the person who said the French should pay us back for helping in WW2, how soon we forget- The French helped us fight the British for this country we call our own.
". After an American victory at Saratoga in 1777, France, with Spain and the Netherlands as its allies, entered the war against Britain. French involvement proved decisive, with a French naval victory in the Chesapeake leading to the surrender of a British army at Yorktown in 1781. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 ended the war and recognized the sovereignty of the United States "
France currently holds $22 billion of our existing debt as of Feb 2007

Iraq didn't start a war with the United States, but rather the world. They have been in violation of numerous UN resolutions for over 10 years, but the world has done nothing. Regardless of what people want to believe in this country there were WMD found in Iraq. The problem is that most people don't want to agree with anything the administration says. I will agree with most in this country that the administration definitly tried to make the case that Iraq had this robust WMD program in place, but having any WMD was a violation of UN resolutions. Did the President have an agenda? Possibly, but I try not to buy into conspiracy theories. Did Iraq start the war? Yes, when they failed to adhere to UN resolutions. Should the UN have acted, absolutely, but unfortunately the UN has become a paper tiger that no one really fears. Just look at Darfur.

I happen to agree with Will. People seem to think everyone is out to get them, Iraq has always thought they were above and beyond things, like the WMD. They were found to have some, and against the UN relations . So we are cleaning up there mess.

The U.S invaded Iraq because the U.S thought Iraq had "Weapons of Mass Destruction" then it was "Helped the Hijackers" then it was "Something had to be done about Saddam." The U.S did not Start this war Bush did. So dont blame us, we did not make the decision, we did not give the order.
And Also for those of you who dont think the French would Fight look at Napolean Bonaparte (even if he was a Corsican,) look at his 100's of thousands of soldiers, or when the Germans took over France they started a resistance to fight them.

Iraq is no longer at war with the United States. We won the war when we captured their capital and executed their president. What we have now is an occupation and a resistance. But no, Iraq did not start the war unless you count invading Kuwait in '90-'91.

In a way, Iraq did start the war... but it had nothing to do with Weapons of Mass Destruction, or bringing Democracy to the Middle East or even Oil... it had everything to do with Hussein trying to have the first President Bush assassinated and little Georgie was getting even for what the dictator tried to do to his daddy.
