The FBI arrived at the Virginia home of Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) and his wife Julie last Friday to execute a search warrant pursuant to their investigation of the Doolittle's ties to imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The unfolding scandal surrounding Abramoff has cut a wide swath through Congress, tarnishing former Rep. Tom DeLay, sending Rep. Bob Ney to prison, and filling the courthouse with a line of staffers and aides offering testimony and pleading guilty. Now federal investigators have turned their attention to the Doolittles. They crossed paths with Abramoff on a number of occasions; John Doolittle did favors for Abramoff in his scheme to bilk Native American tribes all the while taking huge campaign contributions from Abramoff and his associates, and Julie's fundraising firm was contracted by Abramoff's sham non-profit the Capital Athletic Foundation. Doolittle has since resigned his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee as the investigation continues.

There needs to be more Senate investigations. Patrick Leahy should be congratulated on an excellent job in interrogating Gonzalez, who looked like a stuck pig.

Well, he is a stuck pig. Did you see that shot of Bush snuggled up against Gonzo's butt in a photo op? Way too close. Gonzo looked embarrassed.

What an eye opener that was!!!

I'm against all scandals and corruptions, but if they found a stack of cash in Doolittle's freezer they found in Louisana's represenative Jefferson's, would they treat him differently or accept the same lame excuse they did from a democrat? It's a double standard, out a crooked dem, they out a crooked rep, but the punishment or media attention is not the same. All I ask is equal treatment, and you'll find who is taking kickbacks and improper donations has nothing to do wiuth what party they belong to. McAuliffe made a wad of cash on the Global Crossing scandal, like Hillary did on those cattle futures. Now that George Soros has a controlling stake in Haliburton and they moved HQ to Dubais we don't hear dems whining about Halliburton every day anymore. And then there was Enron, fingers were pointed but they never got into who was on teh take from Enron because BOTH sides were, same as both sides are endebted to big oil companies now, not only is nothing being done about price gouging, but they are being allowed to squeeze us to get more oilfield leases when there is no proof they have been paying on the ones they have on federal lands now,a nd who do you think gets all the government grants and subsidies for alternative energy? The same oil companies ripping us off now. If the public money is going to go into these projects it should be publically owned, like the TVA or REA, not giving OUR money to billionaires and their corporations. But that is what congress is doing, Abramoff had his legs cut off, so it's safe for everyone to pounce on the people who have no real politcal career anyways, like tossing a dog a bone, then we'll all be satisfied all teh corruption is gone. Yeah right. At least term limits would spread the money around a different bunch of thieves every few years, and there would be better chance of them making stupid mistakes where they get caught. And when it comes to Mark Foley, they should have kicked him out, but dems caught having sex with pages got re-elected, sort of like fooling around on your wife is ok in the White house but not on Capitol Hill, the double standard means we can't trust teh mainstream media either, and they wonder why people get cynical?

I wouldn't call it republican scandals, I would call it neo-con scandals. There are decent, moral republicans who would never do anything like this. I might disagree with them on politics, but that doesn't make them bad. Just so everyone knows where I stand, I am a tree-hugging, vegetarian, bleeding-heart liberal.

It will never end. It will continue until 2008. Remember Clinton was acquitted. He wasn't found guilty.
