Some states have adopted the use of specially marked license plates for the police to see. Sadly, it's only for habitual offenders. Also, vehicles can be equipped with equipment that make the function only if the driver is sober. Again, they're really only used for habituals.

I agree. The drunk may only get a few years in jail but the family of the person who was crippled or killed will suffer forever. The really sad thing is that it is usually someone innocent that dies and the drunk is OK. Someone caught driving drunk needs sent to jail right then so they don't hurt anyone.

I agree with Stone Neil Budde. The practice of Drunk Driving is actually increasing in popularity. Heck, the only times I drive are home from the bar. Just last night, I hit something on my way home. Not sure if it was a deer or a bum. In either case, nobody will miss it.

yeah, a friend of mine was just killed by a guy who had just got his liscence back from some kind of suspension for speeding and not paying fines. A couple years in jail for a manslaugter charge and everything else that goes with it is no small thing, but everyone makes mistakes. I hate to say that people deserve a second chance, since that is what killed my friend, at this point I say lock this guy up and throw away the key. I think with all the stupid corrupt laws they pass they could pass a couple decent ones, but that is politics for you.

if you drink and drive you are a dumb @$$ hole. it is screwed up that the victim always (mostly) dies and the di%# doesnt die at all. maybe a couple scars. i think that this world is really messed up..i guess. it is horrible i think i agree with you about the suffering family. how would you ever begin to forvige someone like that. you are also right. they are even stupider to do it again...and when it happens again they could be like omg i neveer thought it could happen again but get what bit&^$# it does. they are dumb morons who should be dead.

I agree. I consider DUI a crime of violence, the difference between a mere DUI and Vehicular Homicide being pure dumb luck. It's morally no different from putting a car at the top of a hill into Neutral and letting it roll down a hill toward a crowd of people with no one in control.
First offense needs to carry a year in jail, minimum, no paroles, probation, ifs ands or buts, and regardless of age.

As far as I'm concerned, a drunk driver who kills someone shouldn't be allowed to drive NO MORE.

Agreed! The decision to drink was premeditated and my feeling that a homicide caused by drunk driving should be punished as severely as premeditated murder. Life with no possibility of parole.

I disagree. Drunk Drivers do not have the same malicious intent that rapist, murderers, and assaulters have, but oftentimes have the same prison time.
