I'm a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

If for some reason they wanted to, could The United States overthrow the world? Not saying there is a reason, I just wonder if any country could be any real opposition. I think a few countries could get in the way, but eventually we would win. (i.e. China, Israel, Russia). If not the world, which countries could the US not beat in a 1 on 1? (I know 1 on 1's never happen.)

Why can't they just be honest? It's by avoiding answering a question simply, and giving us a positive yes or no answer that disuades me from voting. The day we have an MP that says these 2 words and gives us a reason to believe them will I even think about voting.

Fox News, which overtook CNN?
2/2/2007 Fox News Channel made it five in a row in January -- five years atop the ratings rung in the news category for both primetime and total day.

Fox News, which overtook CNN in January 2002, averaged a 1.4 household rating last month, up 8% from 1.3 in the first month of 2006, according to a Disney ABC Networks analysis of Nielsen Media Research data. That was good for a share of fourth place among all basic-cable networks in January. CNN was flat at a 0.7, while MSNBC improved 0.5.

Last month, Fox News scored a 9% gain with primetime viewers to a 1.62 million average from 1.48 million, more than twice the combined total of CNN and MSNBC.

Changing public views of CNN perhaps best exemplify these trends. In 1998, 42% of those familiar enough with CNN to rate the network said they believed all or most of what CNN reported, Today, just 28% give CNN the highest believability rating, a share which is statistically indistinguishable from most other television news sources.

Other TV news sources, such as 60 Minutes, C-SPAN, and local news stations, have seen similar declines in credibility over the past decade and no longer stand apart as significantly more reliable than other sources.

One of the few sources that have not suffered a credibility decline in recent years is Fox News Channel. Currently, one-in-four (25%) say they believe all or most of what they see on Fox News Channel, virtually unchanged since the outlet was first tested in 2000.

"In my more than three decades in government, I have never seen anything approaching the degree to which information flow from scientists to the public has been screened and controlled as it is now," James Hansen told a University of Iowa audience.

Hansen is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York and has twice briefed a task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney on global warming.

Jerry Falwell called the National Organization for Women, the National Organization for Witches. Pat Robertson has said men are the head of the household and that women should accept that and be submissive to him. The Southern Baptist Church even put these beliefs in writing. That's why Jimmy Carter left the church.

The conservative hate for feminists is nothing new. Christian conservatives and their interpretation of the Bible were the biggest obstacle to women's rights in this country. That's quoting Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an atheist and famous women's right activist. When critics from Susan B Anthony's women's rights association tried to distance themselves from Stanton and her "Women's Bible", Susan stood up for her friend and defended her. She criticized the fundies and their traditional values and stood up for liberalism and progressivism.

I went to Mexico this last weekend, and noticed a lot of immigration cars on the highway, coming back from Mexico, and wondered this. I live in Arizona, so I know that highway patrol can pull you over for going over (75mph), its obvious, but what about immigration? Do they only have the right to pull you over if they think there is something suspicious (or illegal) in your car (like trafficking people)? Or can they also pull you over for traffic violations (on the highway)?
