The earliest we know was the Villanovan Culture. These were prehistoric people who may have been the early ancestors of Swiss and/or Basque people today.
The earliest ancestors of today's Italians would be a mixture of mostly three groups.
1) The Etruscans: Nobody is too sure where they come from. Turkey is a common guess. Their cities seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. They had an impressive culture shortly before the Romans came on the scene.
2) The Italics: Probably came from central Europe about 4000 years ago. They were most likely the forefathers of the Romans.
3) Protomediterraneans: From Central Asia about the same time. These people had the greatest racial influence on the modern people of Europe overall.

Dating back 200,000 years ago, prehistoric humans inhabited italy as proof, but the known first civilization to ever inhabit from the is acurate and true dating back to 600 BC are the Greeks, and the romans. This is proof of Coloseeums and other roman prescence. I believe it is the Greeks first, then romans. As many greeks immigrated to italy. More Information can be seen at my source that i looked this answer up for. I hope i have helped.
