neither. the democrats are showing how foolish the religious right was in supporting the republicans since the republicans talked a good deal, but acted like a bunch of hypocrits. the republican party has pretty much ruined its chances with the far riught, not because the far right doesn't have somethiung to say, but because the republicans didn't push the religious agenda as the religous right thought they would.
the religious right is seeking to impose it's own brand of morallity on america, and the republican party claimed it would do so, but fell into its own quagmire of trash activity which turned them into nothjing less than fools and idiots who were more willing to hide their actions and protect themselves from criticism than to let the public find out the truth. this turned the religious right, as well as many in their own party against them. they have not yet been able to bring things under control again in their own party and it is still in disarray as a result. it may take several years for them to finally clean up the mess they made of things, but eventually they will.
this has worked to the democrats favor, and the democrats will continue to use it as long as it can or until they themselves cause some serious problem and don't act immediately to correct it, which the republican's failed to do when they had the chance.

A little of both I think. The folly of the conservative religious nuts is so obvious to the rest of us that it's hard not to laugh a bit at their expense. But we sincerely believe that many of them are not beyond the reach of reason, and that after seeing the gross and obvious disconnect between Jesus' teachings and the GOP - some of them will prove not-quite-braindead and will be born-again again!

I think the Republican party has done enough to make any rational Christian turn against them already.

Quit lumping the actions of a single individual in with your notions of the ideology of an entire group of people. You only perpetuate the "stupid American" stereotype.
Religion is a major causative factor to the wars and violence in this world; why not work to destroy it?

Judging by what I hear of that insider's account book about the "faith-based initiative" program the repubs are doing a good enough job on their own.
