The last time the US used total war it was WW2 can we as a nation do what it takes to WIN a war any more? shock and awe is ok if you keep it up till the enemy has lost the will to fight.

I think that we could give up sugar or bread for ONE day per week to help our brave men and women overseas. It's not that hard, don't act spoiled.

If we truly believed that we were in serious danger, we would respond. But since we all know that Iraq never posed a serious and imminent threat to us, it's hard to get very excited over it. The Bush administration knew this all along, which is why they bought our complicity with tax breaks.
During WWII, we Americans understood the importance of victory and were thus able to make huge sacrifices, both in terms of lives lost and also in terms of $$$. And we didn't borrow the money to finance the war, but in fact we retooled our economy to support the war.
However during this war, since the Bush Admnistration knows there is no popular support, the civilian population has not been asked to participate in any other way besides shutting up and turning a blind eye to the ugliness of it all - both in human terms and financial terms.

there hasn't been a real cause to go to war for since wwII.
the non-existent dominoe theory (reason for wasting 55,000 american lives in far away vietnam) or the idea that attacking a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11, american security or the broader war on terror (iraq conflict) also won't cut it.
it seems to me that you tough guy cons just want to have an all out war so that you can play pretend tough guy at whatever bizarre rituals you exercise such things at - possibly some tough guy homo-erotic male bonding thing - who the heck knows.
you want all out war - first you need an all out reason, if not you are just insane...
