I'm a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Unfortunately for you, your party no longer represents these values. So many conservatives have been asleep at the wheel while their party has been hijacked by socialists who crave a new world order...look up the definition of Neo-con if you don't believe me. The white house and congress are full of neo-cons right now. So, thanks for taking our socialist trash off of our hands...this will only make the Dem. party so much stronger.

Fiscal responsibility you say? You might want to look into the porkish behavior of the Repub. controlled congress 2000-06, it's record-breaking and reprehensible. And don't forget ole rubber-stampin' Bush...he vetoed his FIRST bill in Sept of 2006.

Peace and human rights you say? Nothing has been done to promote either in the world. You need to look no further than the Military Commission Act and the blatant disregard to the Geneva Convention. And invading a country that did not attack us, and did not have WMDs is not a very peaceful move. *sigh*

The sad thing, is you don't even realize that your party has been hijacked...the smart ones have already woken up.

Is that really what the republican party stands for nowadays? Do they really believe in individual freedoms when they want to watch what you do, who you do it with, what you read, who you call, and what you do with your own body? Do they believe in equal rights when they want to amend our Constitution to deny equal rights to a particular group? Do they believe in free enterprise when they give massive bailouts to industries that aren't competetive on their own? Do they believe in fiscal responsibility when they're spending like sailors on shore leave? Do they really believe in extending peace and freedom while starting wars and locking people up without rights? Do they believe in small government when their solution to EVERYTHING is more legislation and more government agencies? You believe that the republican party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals, unfortunately that's like saying you believe in using a minimum amount of fuel so that's why you drive a hummer. The republican party claims to stand for these things, but their claims don't match their actions. If you truly believe what you said, and I have no reason to believe you don't, then join the party that actually STANDS for those ideals instead of paying them lip service. Become a Libertarian. Freedom starts with the individual, and ends with the committee.

Simple answer. Does the Republican Party fulfill those beliefs or are you merely getting lip service from them?
I believe the Republican Party has been hijacked by big money and big business interests and while touting a strong conservative program really is about simply changing the distribution of wealth into the hands of those who already have most of it. I really don't think they are telling you the truth. This current batch are not conservatives but rather thieves.

Excellent post! It's too bad that the Republican party has been hijacked by religious fundamentalism in recent years. It's up to people like us to lead the Republican party back to its true conservative roots.
