Many recent elections seem to be split almost 50/50 on popular vote and the Congress and Senate are nearly split down the middle. Additionally, political rhetoric seems aimed at magnifying the difference between the parties rather than searching for common ground. Do you see this trend as problematic towards effective governance in serving the greatest good of the greatest number of people, or do you feel that this is how politics should be played out?

Take a look at the front bench team of the Scottish National Party, it does't really inspire much confidence as far as I am concerned. I don't think Scotland is able to stand alone. Scots are too used with whining ,complaining and having someone else to blame for anything that goes wrong, especially if was something we did ourselves! We're just not that good. Look at the football team :oD

There was a consensus that the Earth was flat and that the Sun circled the Earthat one time!

I enjoy studying astronomy and I know for damn sure the Earth is round, and the Earth circles the Sun!

I refuse to let the new true believers set us back hundreds of years!

'Beating up illegals'
Lawless, an original member of Chris Simcox's vigilante militia before it became the Minuteman Project in early 2005, detailed 11 suggestions for ways to harass and terrorize undocumented immigrants, including robbery and ''beating up illegals'' as they leave their work place, the report states. Martin, following Lawless' suggestions, posted her e-mail to a number of neo-Nazi bulletin boards.

Jose Matus, Yaqui ceremonial leader and director of the human rights group Indigenous Alliance Without Borders, based in Tucson, pointed out that indigenous people who live along the border - from California to Texas - and others migrating for work from Central and South America are victims of the growing racism by members of the Minutemen and Border Guardians.

Matus compared the Border Guardians to the Ku Klux Klan. ''Border Guardians are like the Ku Klux Klan, only not as ambitious,'' Matus told ICT.

political views the same or the opposite then yours? I was wondering if people feel the need to blog on Q/A because they live in a state where the majority of the people have the opposite views as them or the same views?

Are you red in a blue state or vise versa or are you the same red in a red or blue in a blue?

just curious

I just read in yahoo news that barrack obama finally paid parking tickets just before entering the race for president of the united states ($400 plus late fees).

Do you think this is bad that he only paid the tickets when it may come out against his white house run?

Do you think it is interesting that the Democratic party talks about people not paying their fare share on taxes, but obama can not pay tickets for years?

Just wondering.

JSA claim?
I found out my claim for the dole was sanctioned a while ago. So I made two applications: one for hardship, one for jobseekers. They made no correspondance so after a few weeks I went in to ask them what was going on with the claim.

They turn round to me and have the cheek to say I'm not entitled to anything because I didn't sign on. But they didn't tell me anything about that, instead they sent me a letter saying my rate was going UP! How am I supposed to know when to sign on if I'm making a whole new claim? This stinks, they wrote to me explicitly saying I have money coming in and then they don't pay it. What can I do? Can I take them to court?

It is a mutual agreement to engage in sex. However, if a woman gets pregnant, it is her decision to have an abortion. Even if the man protests and wants to keep it. On the flip side, if the woman wants to keep the baby and the man doesn’t, he simply walks out. (Which I do not condone nor do I find it manly) The woman then sues the crap out of him for child support. Isn’t there something wrong with the pro-choice concept here? Women have all the choice when it comes to berthing a child but men don’t?

Can someone clear this up for me?

My 15 year old son works part time at a funeral home after school. He washes the windows, vacuums, dusts, etc… Yesterday my son another young employee decided to start fooling around and in a moment of non-brilliance, my son got inside one of the showroom coffins. The other boy shuts the top and cranks the air tight seal closed.
From what I understand now, these coffins do not "re-open", once sealed that is it. Anyway between my son scratching, clawing, kicking the inside of the coffin and the boy on the outside using screwdrivers, sledgehammer & crowbar to pry open the coffin it is completely destroyed.
The parlor owner now wants the other boy's parents and myself to pay for this $7,000 coffin. Doesn't the funeral parlor have insurance for such damage? Had they not destroyed the coffin my son would have suffocated in there.

The word religion comes from the greek religos which means "to come from"..

Where did humans come from? The Earth? Or Devine creationalism? Which is more likely?

Should people who believe in evolution actually be worshiping the Earth?

The Native American tribes of North America all had a certain reverence for the Earth. It gave them life, food, clothes,.. Just as it does us.. But we have confused this with organized religion that is usually forced on children, the poor, etc..

Shouldn't we all care a little more about the Earth? Isn't it where we came from? Where we will return to? Where we get our food, clothes, shelter? Don't we depend on it for everything? Isn't it hubric to disease it the way we have?
