The word religion comes from the greek religos which means "to come from"..

Where did humans come from? The Earth? Or Devine creationalism? Which is more likely?

Should people who believe in evolution actually be worshiping the Earth?

The Native American tribes of North America all had a certain reverence for the Earth. It gave them life, food, clothes,.. Just as it does us.. But we have confused this with organized religion that is usually forced on children, the poor, etc..

Shouldn't we all care a little more about the Earth? Isn't it where we came from? Where we will return to? Where we get our food, clothes, shelter? Don't we depend on it for everything? Isn't it hubric to disease it the way we have?

Shawn, it is obvious to me that your mind is already made up on the subject. Although I don't think you really gave it any thought..

As a rebuttal to your arguement and the quote you gave..

I dissagree that the environmentalist movement is consistently antagonistic to the requirements of human life on earth. On the contrary, they understand the requirements for man's existance and work to make it more sustainable. Environmentalists are concerned with man's survival needs. Man needs clean air, clean water, rich soil etc.. Man does not need to harm his environment beyond repair in order to grow food (organics), build houses (LEEDS certification) or engage in medical research to cure diseases ( huh? What "green" is against this..They are more likely to be FOR stem cell research which anti-environmentalists are against).

So I think you should make an attempt to learn about "greens" before you make such a statment..

But, I do think that Dennis Kucinich is a little wacko.

But then again Larry, you are quoting the Bible..

I guess you belive in the afterlife, resurrection of Christ, and all these other things that go against the laws of physics..

Yes, man is filled with Hubris, God told us to subdue the earth, with the intention that we would bring it under the control of God, but we sinned and fell. Now, we have twisted his commandment and try to rape and pillage the earth for everything we can get from it with no thought toward tomorrow.

What the heck are you talking about?

Check out Dennis Kucinich. NO I would never vote for anyone holding those views.

I prefer progress. I believe in conservationism, NOT environmentalism. I do not believe in worship of the earth.

From the article listed below, should help clear things up for you.

"The environmentalist movement is consistently antagonistic to the requirements of human life on earth. On issue after issue, the environmentalists hold viewpoints that oppose man's survival needs. Man's nature requires him to continuously reshape his environment, e.g., to clear land for agricultural development, build houses and cities, engage in medical research to cure diseases, and so forth. But the greens oppose every productive activity on which human survival depends. "

The religion of an atheist depends on why he is an atheist. For some it is science, reason, etc. For others it is something else, like, apathy. As for those who believe that the universe and the laws acting upon it are god, they're called pantheists. You sound like you might be a pantheist. Yes, you should care about the Earth, but as long as people believe in an afterlife, they won't. The key is getting them to believe in reincarnation, then they have to care about the Earth, because they'll be coming back... again and again and again. Mwahahaha!
PS: It might behoove Druids and Wiccans who want to be elected, if they try to act less fruity.

Oh don't get me started. I love a good debate. But, you are forgetting one important issue. There is a separation of Church & State, and many other attributes that apply to religion.
I have a couple of Native American friends and love them. I respect the way they think. To apply a Religion as a Puritan enforced way of life in the US, in any religion is out of the Q.,and will never happen.

We should apply and could apply this to the government, for a basis to stop Global Warming. I can predict some of this type of respect for Earth will soon be applied.

Would I vote for some specifically for and because of this Religion? Nope!

Wow, this is deep. I agree with you; I am a baptized Catholic, and while my whole family is uberly religious, I don't really think that I am. I believe in more what I can see. Darwin had some great ideas. This is a bit of a dodgy subject; some people have very strong ideas about religion. I guess this is one of those things that we will really never know until we die.

And the people who awaited Moses at the foot of the mountain began to murmer and complain-- "where is Moses and what of the "God" that we can not see-- and in their contrivences began to rationalize for a "god" that would be tangible and accessible that they might SEE and KNOW as their own ---- And, so. they did conspire to CREATE a god of tangible matter and lift this god up as the holy and revered !!

And, the Most High looked down upon this with distain and uttered the word of judgement upon them and the EARTH opened up amongst them and one third of the multitude were swallowed up !!

Even the EARTH KNOWS TO OBEY the Most High !! It is idoicy to worship the servant !!!

I would certainly vote for such a person. Not atheist, but Druid or Wiccan! But then I would have no problem voting for an atheist, either.
