1) WASHINGTON — An internal Justice Department report accuses the FBI of underreporting its use of the Patriot Act to force telecommunications and financial firms to turn over customer information in suspected terrorism cases, according to officials familiar with its findings.

Shoddy bookkeeping and records management led to the problems, said one government official familiar with the report. The official said FBI agents appeared to be overwhelmed by the volume of demands for information over a two-year period.

"They lost track," said the official who like others interviewed late Thursday spoke on condition of anonymity because the report had not been released.

The errors are outlined by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine in an audit to be released on Friday. The audit requirement was added to the Patriot Act by Congress over the objections of the Bush administration.

It seems like a lot fo the polarizing issues of our time are the big social ones: guns, gays, abortion, same sex marriage, etc. It seems to me they are getting in the way of our addressing the really big issues: our place in the world, health care, job loss etc.

Of course we have this to some degree now, but there is so much pressure to make the country homogenious (no reference intended) that it feels like we are hung up on trying to make us all alike when we are not.

Why not let all the states address these issues and keep the feds out? If you want to live in a ultra conservative place you go there. If you want a liberal atmosphere you move there. Isnt this then the "land of the free"? Would this not relieve some of the red-blue tension?

Women are the most discriminated category of citizens in India. With reference to the Affermative Action Plan of the present government reservations of 50% because women constitute about 50% of the population. Hence the Govt needs to bring in 50% reservations for women in jobs and education. The present system of reservations for SC/ST/ OBC/Muslims etc etc will no longer be required.
This may also be benificial to the party that brings in this reservations since women constitute about 50% of the vote bank. (But political parties should not take women for granted and expect them to vote like the sheep).

I am still looking for a site where you can find veteran's/ buddies I was with while in the military. I have used military.com, veteran finders. I have googled and googled. I have yet to find a particular site. I am looking for a site that will allow one to put in particular dates and hopefully be able to find who was all in that time frame and "MAYBE" who was in a particular unit. None of the known sites have this option. I am wondering if there is something I am over looking. I have searched "ALL" of the obvious. Thanks in advance for you help.

The case relates to derelict land that has a lockable gate which is left open by the site owner, with a sign saying only those with a permit can park there. One day a private parking firm came along and ticketed all the vehicles . (£25 if paid immediately, £50 later). No sign showed such a penalty. The ticket was not signed manually. There are no vehicles on the site displaying a permit, and no application process appears to exist.
Can it be contested?

Is it something the public should know? Or just disguised gay-bashing?

I thought the US army were in Afghanistan to re-build/win hearts and minds/educate and help the stability? Why is it then when they drive through Kabul in their great big Hummers at 100km they are so aggressive? Is forcing civilians of the road at gun point really helping them? Every other nation working for ISAF are cautious, but are warm and friendly towards the local people.

You believe that a military action - fighting a war - is vital to US national security. But the public is strongly against the action, by at least two to one.

Do you fight the war, or withdraw?

This is a hypothetical, sort of.
