Arguments against the patriot act or other similar measures always prompt the the cliched "then we become like them!" or "then we lost who we are".
In other words, its better to perish than to sacrifice some portion of our imagined "rights". Uh...I disagree. I prefer to live with less rights as opposed to not living or allowing the adversary to continue unabated.
First of all, we have already, as a nation, lost some of our rights because of Islamic terrorism. Essentially it came down to three choices:
1. Dont give the governement any greater ability to mointer potential terrorist activities
2. Give the government ability to mointer all people, so as, God forbid, not to discriminate against the singular community committing the terror.
3. Give the government ONLY the ability to further intrude upon the privacy of the community singularly responsible for generating domestic terror.
Oh dear me, how could we think of option 3. Better we ALLL LOSE RIGHTS.
(sigh)
