It is political posturing, like when the democrats would not appoint any of Bush's judges. Both side do it to get what they want. And as of today the republicans have not tried to block anything

They blocked the controversy and had a open vote. meaning that What they vote won't bypass onto checklist yet they could nevertheless earnings authority over regulations and action. So... with that suggested. they try to DE FUND the conflict without getting there palms grimy..on an identical time as making it look like GWB's fault. So while we, the human beings, come and back lash at them. they could say that they did no longer do it. that's a political rip-off that persons are actually not responsive to to make a million individual take each and all the warmth for there movements. I guess i gets particularly some thumbs down in this one reason to no longer many human beings understand this and could think of i'm stupid. yet that's there opinion.

It's all politics. Many of the republicans would like to reign in Bush's broken war machine, but they only just thought of that since they lost the last election.
Now their best political option is to keep the dems from doing anything that they themselves should have done years ago.
Their strategy is to make the democrats' congress as ineffective as the last one was.
And they say dems are the ones who hate America but they know something must be done and still try to delay it two more years for the sake of an election.
The non-binding resolution is a way to warn Bush before they cut off funding. They actually are doing Bush a favor. If they want to stop the war now they will cut off the funding. The dems are politicans, too, and thought they would give the executive a signal of where they are going so he could start cutting back the number of troops in Iraq.
He did the opposite, and when the money runs out the repubs will blame the dems. The generals, meanwhile, will be ready to bring our boys home, but the white house will delay it until the soldiers in Iraq are dangerously low on supplies and blame that on the dems, too.

It's all a game to them.. the Republics have no clue what being a patriot and putting the country first is about. They are blocking the debates because ppl might see how they really feel and to give Bush time to move his new surge into Iraq.

They didn't actually block the debates over Iraq. They wanted to expand them.

The Republicans know they will lose an up-down vote on the Iraq War.

To their credit, one Republican proposed a vote on FUNDING the war, but most Democrats are too shy to vote against such a proposal.

Many Republicans want to continue to lockstep with the Administration no matter what they do and how wrong it may be.

These people who block debates are scared to death that people will find out what is really going on.

They didn't. Democrats block debate on a Republican resolution so the Republicans blocked debate on the Dems resolution.

Filibusters are a legitimate and important part of our democracy, and the minority needs these procedural powers in order to maintain a voice in government.

That said, the Republicans are perhaps misusing that power in this case... I mean come on guys... are we really afraid of a nonbinding resolution? Like Bush will change his ways now for that.
