In other words, if we want guaranteed health care, housing, and jobs, and no more war, the politicians we elect should give us those things, right?

What an amazing lack of respect of democracy from some so-called Americans! Have you ever heard of government "of the People, by the People, and for the People"?

surely we are loose to pay taxes. you are able to report for an exemption from taxes and surely various human beings have filed and don't pay taxes. while you're rich adequate, you will come across worry-free worry-free techniques to cover you funds removed from the government and not pay taxes. as far as our government doing issues the wonderful way, no government ever does it superb. The previous asserting, "you are able to please various the individuals various the time, yet each and all the individuals not one of the time" is going properly for the government. there is not any way that each and every physique will ever be happy. combating wars is very generally a waste of money, even though it is likewise the thank you to stimulate the financial device. the government spends funds on kit and weapons that American companies produce. The capability of a united states of america is partly a minimum of based upon that united states of america's wealth. If our government had no funds, we does no longer be the main efficient united states of america interior the worldwide. You income potential and effect with wealth. this is to no longer say that the US could desire to no longer have any effect without wealth, even though it would be much less efficient. could desire to taxes be decreased? definite. We pay far too lots funds for issues that are no longer significant. Take care, Troy

No. If the majority of the country wanted to exterminate a minority population in this country, it would be our government's job simply to protect the rights of all of it's citizens. Health care, housing, jobs, peace are NOT rights....they're goals we as individuals should strive for ourselves.

Edit: You speak about the lack of respect for democracy, yet you disrespect the majority consensus answering your question. How poetic....and telling.

In a perfect world where we can all just get along. But we know better than that. This is dog eat dog. If you can't even get along with the guy down the street who speaks your language, acts and looks like you then how do you expect a panacea. Throw in the rest of the differences and you really have what you see today. Let's be real, when has there ever been what you describe? I thought so.

Yes. But to get what you want, you have to get some socialists elected. Good luck with that. Better yet, just find a socialist country and go live there.

No. We are not a direct democracy. The public gets a voice on election day. Vote for the people whose stances are most like yours. I vote for people who will lead, not look at polls.

Wrong, that throws personal responsibility out of the window and brings in the socialist waiting on their handouts. The fix is to get out, get a job, and provide for ones self. The government does not owe anyone housing, handouts, a car or anything. They are lawmakers, and need to take our tax money and do what is right (pay off the debt, make our military strong, secure our borders etc...) instead of throwing it at some social program that makes the lazy,...well, more lazy.
Remember the democrat JFK, "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

Not the federal government. If you want your local or state government to do all those things for you because you're an emotionally stunted individual that refuses to act like an adult and take care of yourself, then so be it. But my state isn't responsible for your states immaturity.

Wrong! Not when it comes out of my paycheck. You want that, you work for it or move to a country that will give it to you. This is a capitalist country, no free rides here.
