Our system of government is predicated on the sharing of powers and responsibilities between different layers of government, ie. federal, state, and local.
Considering the federal government's less-than-stellar track record when it comes to efficiency and efficacy, why does the Left clamor for more and more federal control? Isn't it logical that people in your state capital understand more about your problems than do bureaucrats in Washington?
Case in point would be Hurricane Katrina debacle. Many liberals whined, kicked, and screamed about the President not doing enough, but disaster relief shouldn't be a federal mandate in the first place. The same could be said of education, agriculture, social security, public works, etc... Why do liberals want to consolidate even more power in an unresponsive and inefficient federal government at the expense of state and local governments?
