u are so right,it is absolutely insane what is going on at the moment,it makes me shudder to think what its going to be like in another ten years if thi government stays in power that long. do u remember what they said ,tough on crime tough on the causes of crime, yet they haven't built one new prison since they have been in power, the only investment they have spent in prisons is ,PlayStation's,nice food, comfy beds, there human rights ,but hay the hard working, law abiding tax paying public, can go and get stuffed.

No, there has been a misunderstanding the judges should ease on 6 months sentences but the jails full are not the courts fault its the Home office also offenders who have served 15 yrs + have done enough time so these should be carefully considered by the appeals court, as for the two freed no they should have gone into prison and i think they will in the long run watch the space.
these offenders must do the sex offenders courses or else nothing will change in them and still be dangerous when they come out and to stay in from 8 to 5 what about 5-10 when kids are playing out. come on lets think he will only get worse now as he has got away with it, or so he thinks.
building prisons is not the answer, stopping the thought of crime is.

Was watching The Wright Stuff this morning and the issue was debated seeming to suggest it had a "political statement by the judge" connotation to it. I must admit it is horrifying but not surprising when you consider the other issues flying about. It appears as though a lot of laws are coming up that seem to cancel out previous laws and nobody understands what is expected of them anymore. The judiciary is under pressure from the government and the government is under pressure from the public and institutions. What's going on?! We all need to stop, take a breather and recap! It gets more hairy when you look at social issues facing other countries. The world seems to be having a mad (long) moment.

Sounds to me as though the Judges are 'taking the mick' as a way of getting at John Reid.
They know full well that letting peadophiles 'off' will hit the headlines and they also ensure that they make a statment saying that they are doing it because of 'that' letter from the HM.
I'm not sure exactly what JR said in his letter, but allowing these type of people to be free would be the last thing that he would want.

Well it is because of the bleeding heart liberals, we have them in the USA doing the same thing! Anyone that bashes Blair and Bush are probably prime suspects. pedophiles going free, mulahs and clerics taking free money and then talking hate. Soldiers treated shabbily by the press. It is very sad and we best do something or there will be no safe place on earth! Canada and NZ and Australia have had similar things happen as well when I check the online newspspers!

This issue has been going on for a while now. In that time we could have built more prisons. Currently 2/3rds of prisoners reoffend because they have not been rehabilitated. I think they should at least be under house arrest & community service should be mandatory as part of their rehabilitation. It would be good to hear an answer to this question from anyone with experience?

well if the people involved in handing out justice like judges, police, etc are peadophiles well whats the point of all this. last week a top ranking 43 year old police inspector was charged with possesion of child porn ,the same week a top judge was charged for the same offence. If pedophiles are rife at the top you may well ask what is this country comeing too.

no- it lost the plot ages ago, under labour. remember when the home secretary reduced the sentencing tariff once set by the previous home sec michael howard of robert thompson and jon venables for the killing of jamie bulger from life to like 8 years or something like that? well that WAS insane. as for the two paedophiles, it is shocking that of course its not right. britain has gone to pot when it comes to locking up criminals. the problem though is that our jails are so full of them, we cannot fit all of them in. perhaps the best thing to do is ship them abroad. as most of us don't want them here anyway and plus its a waste of taxpayers money having them holed up behind bars anyway. then again, i'm not surprised most brits are considering packing their bags and leaving the UK for good. with the way this nation is being run by labour, it could only get worse

Journalists often deserve jail or worse for the cavalier way they like to rip peoples lives apart in public without even the benefit of a trial and with nothing but their pay packet for motivation.

YES IT'S A DISGRACE AND IS RIDICULOUS!
We can spend hours debating Jade "Miss Piggy" Goody, find a space for a gutter journalist in jail. But 2 paedophiles, the absolute scum of the earth are allowed to walk our streets!
This country is going to hell.
