I know that if you're in the military as well as your siblings and any of them got KIA, they'll grant you exemption from combat. Just wondering if they'll do the same for any soldier/sailor/marine/airman who's an only child, only son, or only daughter.

That's draft-era policy and does not apply to today's all-volunteer military.

Not true... There are many siblings, father/sons, mother/daughters in combat that have lost 1 or the other and still are deployed. It doesnt exempt you from combat. As far as being the only person that can carry on the name excuse, well you have to litterly be the ONLY one in your ENTIRE extended family that if killed would end that family. ITs tough to prove and if you are an only child and have to know about this, then you shouldnt join the military.

There is no policy on an only son/daughter joining the military. This should be obvious since they are volunteering.)

If a member of a soldier's immediate family is killed in combat then any military siblings are given the option of accepting an honorable discharge. (This is a one-time offer - if the soldier declines, he/she cannot change their mind later.)

sure. I disagree with the thought that those suicides are without postpone correct to style of excursions. i've got faith it is melancholy led to by skill of understanding they are in contact in a warfare no longer supported by skill of maximum people. blended with the certainty that the army is all volunteer. Patriotism is now no longer a reason to combat for usa. maximum the youngsters entering into the army ought to care much less approximately usa, many have not got a clue.

the only exemption of the kind is if the Male Soldier in question is the last of a bloodline, noone else to carry on the family name if you will. That is very hard to come by this day and age. Don't make your asumptions based on the movie Saving Private Ryan, it was after all, a movie.

The only way to avoid combat for a only child is if that child's father was killed in combat. All that other stuff you hear about is rumors.

They might keep you out of combat.

But why would you sign up and then pull that trick?

Doesn't seem right to me.
