Actually as of today he's the "decision-maker". Both thoughts are equally alarming.

Remeber, he is still Commander in Chief of the armed forces. However, A.P. reports that the actual quote was: "I'm the decision-maker [on Iraq]." Note however that in December 2005, President Bush said: "As president I am responsible for the decision to go into Iraq." Also, on January 10 of this year, the President stated: "Our troops in Iraq have fought bravely. … Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me."

The "I'm the decider" line was used to convince skeptics that former Defense Secretary Rumsfeld had the President's confidence. CNN reported the full quote as: "I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

According to the US constitution the President commands the military and sets foreign policy. If the Democrats think that because they have one more person in the Senate than the Republicans then they get all of the powers of the presidential office, then they better read the constitution.

The congress does get to write the laws, and fund the programs, so if they wanted to they can cut the funds to support the President's decisions.

Yes it is true. In a way he is right as he is the commander in chief and decides when n how we go to war. But that was just such an arrogant move. It was like givin the finger to congress. I hope they come back and smack him with a bill to cut money for the war or better yet just give him no more money period. If only congress had the balls to do that. They rather waste our money, let him fail, and then have the public only blame him, than stop the money flow, and assume some responsibility when iraq finally falls apart.

Let me tell u something
I guess we all know what is an exe file, it is an executive file which means that if u hit on this file the software will start working, does that mean that this file is the only file the performs all of the activities for the software? of course not, there are a lot of other files that we don't use and we don't even see that DO all the work...
the same thing applys on Bush he is the exe file, he is the seen "decider" and he is the one who "commands" but the truth is there are alot of other politicans that we don't see and we don't know who do all the work on behalf of him and they tell him what to decide and what do decide not and he accordingly he makes his decisions... ;-)

True....... But he is not unchecked. Falls under the Constitutional separation of Government Powers. As President (Bush) is the Commander-In-Chief but Congress controls the purse strings. He can mobilize ans send troops as he believes necessary but Congress has the authority to cut funding. They could if they really wanted to........

President Bush, on Iraq, said Friday "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. He challenged skeptical lawmakers not to prematurely condemn his plan.

Commander in Chief = Decider. But congress controls the purse. Get that into your head.

According to the structure of our government, he is "the commander in Chief" of the millitary forces in the USA. But the MOST important thing people seem to ignore is WHY we have a president. He is NOT MILITARY! He is the highest ranking civilian! The president does NOT DECIDE WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO!!! HE is under our control! If you don't like it, let him know! He cannot and does not have the authority to overrule the american people.
