I ran out of money and was trying to get food for my kids and gas so I could go to work. I did not just go out and spend on things that do not matter, and I am very sorry i made a mistake

Depends on the state laws, you should contact a lawyer to be sure, but in most states anything over $100 is a felony, $50 in some states, and is punishable by up to 3 years in jail. However if it is a first offence you are probably looking at a year probation and fines plus court costs.

Indeed you will, if the creditor wants to play hardball with you. Work out a repayment plan with them before this happens, and save yourself some trouble.

You could. Probably depends on if this is your first offense, etc.

If it is your first offense, they may just give you probation, restitution, and community service.

As there are other ways to get food and help when you're down and out, it won't matter. You broke the law period.

Next time (hopefully there won't be one for you) find legal ways to get food, etc. Go to a church - they have food pantries, they have grants they give, etc.

It depends if it is your first offense. You could just end up with a probation. However, you do have a criminal offense record for it. It will mess up your future!
