The Congressional Budget Office study, due to be released today, found that the wealthiest 20 percent, whose incomes averaged $182,700 in 2001, saw their share of federal taxes drop from 64.4 percent of total tax payments in 2001 to 63.5 percent this year. The top 1 percent, earning $1.1 million, saw their share fall to 20.1 percent of the total, from 22.2 percent.
Over that same period, taxpayers with incomes from around $51,500 to around $75,600 saw their share of federal tax payments increase. Households earning around $75,600 saw their tax burden jump the most, from 18.7 percent of all taxes to 19.5 percent.

I'm about to move to the air base where my husband works as enlisted personnel. I'd really like to find a civilian job on base, so I won't have to travel far. My first choices would be the base library or commissary. What kinds of offices and departments hire civilian spouses? Thanks.

a true patriot. I am not talking about the B.S. email story being passed around, but the true story is just as nice. Wanted to help set the record straight. What Denzel did WAS great. We should hear the truth of it. Isn't this nice to hear? Denzel Washington...a true American! http://www.fisherhouse.org/inthenews/actor_04_13_SS.shtml

Does the term terrorism apply to ideology or method, or a combination? Some people say the U.S. is terrorist and the Jihadists are not, because of ideology, and vice-versa. Some say both are. Some say the Jihadists are terrorists because of kidnappings, suicide bombings... but is it different from telling one nation to do what you want or you will bomb them, killing civilians in the process? Is it a matter of who's fighting for what reason, or even whose god is better?

Also, terrorism's relative nonexistence is an acceptable answer... or whatever madness you can come up with, I'd like to hear it

when they would be furious at the government for banning interracial marriages...?

i'm not racist. i'm just making a point that if you can discriminate for one reason, you can discriminate for any reason. there needs to be a zero tolerance policy on discrimination, i think.

Recently, a Meriden, Connecticut police officer (Ouellette) arrested my child at his school, Thomas Edison. I filed a grievance after finding out that this individual taunted my child, and rather than give him a consequence for a prank, told him that he wanted to "wring his neck," accused him of lying and at the end, called him "useless." My child responded by telling him "you are!", and at that moment this gorila jumped on his back, and handcuffed him, taking him to the poilce station in an obvious show of force and abuse of authority. A violation of his civil rights, as my son was not disrupting a class or an event when he returned the insult to the cop. By the way, he is a 13 yr old Puerto Rican boy. I filed a grievance, and, even though the assistant principal witnessed the abuse, Internal Affairs's investigation determined there was no proof to substantiate my complaint. What can be done to stop police abuse and brutality? What can be done to fight the code of silence among them?

Because there is none at all. Anynoe who thinks that is just dumb. That includes Bushlickers. Even William Cohen, Clinton's defense secretary. He was a secret Bush supporter, and probably planned the stolen election. Because he said in testimony before Congress that "Al Qaeda also forged alliances with the National Islamic Front in the Sudan and with the government of Iran and its associated terrorist group Hezbollah for the purpose of working together against their perceived common enemies in the West, particularly the United States. In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the government of Iraq."

But then Cohen, the secret Bush supporting Chimp follower, said in testimony before Congress on why Clinton bombed the aspirin factory in Sudan:

I have just been cut up on a dual carriageway by a bad driver who then took their time to join the roundabout. The driver got out and approached me and said they would not move off until I had put down my bottle of water. A little naughty I know but I only took a sip whilst the car was in neutral and the handbrake on. This person had an identification card on which said police but would they have the right to take this action if they are off duty? Does a civilian working for the police have any powers.

I've never heard of this guy before. It looks like a pro-illegal group that previously tried to get him into trouble for arresting the illegals is trying a different tack.

That aside, I am surprised that I never heard of this person. Does anyone else know anything about him?

What do you think of this?

"The plaintiff in the suit, Ronald Morales of Douglas, alleges that Roger Barnett threatened him and his hunting party, which included one girl aged 9 and two others aged 11, with an AR-15 assault rifle after Barnett accused them of trespassing on his Douglas ranch on Oct. 30, 2004. Morales says the property was state trust land leased by Barnett, which made it permissible for him to hunt there.

A lot of people answered this question, about a maximum wage, saying that raising the minimum wage destroys business growth. Well, if people aren't being paid a living wage, our economic system doesn't work, and that's why we need to require a living wage. As for the person who gave a long explanation on how businesses will go under and people won't invest in new businesses if the minimum wage is raised, I have to say I could agree with the basic concept that a raised minimum wage could do harm to small businesses... but not a requirement to pay a living wage.

The entire structure of the economy would modify itself to accomodate the change, after a short turbulant time, it would correct itself and be better for it... people would have more spending power, etc.

As for creating new businesses, NOTHING will stop Americans from creating new businesses. If they have to pay a higher

Did anyone heard about the murder committed by 2 African Americans and one Arab in Mariners Harbors NY yesterday?
They killed a LEGAL immigrant just because he was Mexican, then, took his cell phone, called his wife (He had her on speed dial) and made jokes about her just murdered husband.
Excuse me, but thats a Hate Crime, I agree that both Mexico and the Us have to come up with a solution, but these is the kind of fear you people are creating with your illegal immigration campaigns.
I dont support illegal immigration, i support Americans in America and Mexicans in Mexico, but unfortunately thats not the way it is.

The senate has found there is no link. Now, the DEMS are gonna beat this into the ground so don't ride on this curtail too long!

I know there will also be defenders saying 'there are other terrorists', and there are. That is right...but the AQ-Saddam connection was the one touted, and that was (along with WMDs) the reason for the impending danger.

These facts, and the fact that this is another bipartisan study, in mind...what are some opinions on the case for war in Iraq?

Karl Rove has in the past good instincts about what plays well. Is that still true?
If you are a conservative who favors preemptive action and you see some Iraq war tactical mistakes as unfortunate but not foreseeable, but acknowledge that the news about Iraq sectarian violence is grim, do you think it would it be smarter politically to focus on good economic news -- job reports, stock market gains, or corporate profits?
Could all the focus on the war backfire?
