it may or may not. The religious right is disenfranchised from the republican party, because the republicans haven't gotten rid of abortion or gay marriage. That isn't to say that they are switching parties, just that they won't be funding the republicans, or showing up to vote in the same numbers we saw in the 1990s. They are closing chaptersin ALabama and other strong religious right states, for non-support. The polititcal landscape may be changing...

By declaring you are atheist would guarantee you a spot on the Allen Cholms show. People would than know that you don't think things through. So you could never make it in politics.

It would ruin your chances of being elected, period.
There was a poll earlier this year that found that Americans distrust Atheists more than any other religious or ethnic group, and would be far less likely to vote for them.

It wouldn't bother me - but I'm sick of Republicans legislating christian morality into law. Separate Church and state. Your religious beliefs should not even be a consideration, but I think that most Republicans love the "doing God's will" thing. - Kinda leaves you without a leader except common sense and decency. Novel.

It would ruin your chance on any ticket. Do you think the Democrats would want an atheist either? They'd have as much chance winning with you as they did with Gore or Kerry.

It probably would. One of that hallmarks of the Republican Party is to defend christian ideology.
But I'm a republican atheist, so you'd get my vote.

Why? Do you believe in tax cuts, smaller government, protecting this nation, willing to do the right thing, than if so I couldn't care less what religion who hold or don't hold. That's would be saying the only way you can be a democrat is to be spawned from Satan or Satan himself.

Nah. Just practice your Bavarian Illuminati hokey pokey dance a few times, actually pretend to tolerate Ann Coulter, and survive a hunting trip with Cheney, and you should be fine.
