"We cannot trust ourselves to behave with decency - We cannot trust our consciences and the remedy is to elect a round body of our neighbours pretty much at random and say to those:

"Be ye our conscience make laws so wise and continue from year to year to administer them so wisely that they shall save us from ourselves and make us righteous and happy...."

Extracted from an essay by Robert Louis Stevenson - The Day After Tomorrow

The UK have spent several years testing out postal votes for local and general elections. The evidence is they have increased voter participation, but there is a negative perception that fraud is likely to happen.

What are your views on postal votes?

WHEN WE CAN FINALLY PULL OUT OUR TROOPS FROM THE HELL HOLES, I DONT THINK WE ARE COMING OUT WITH LOADS OF OIL. So why do people say it? Pricks have RESPECT for the brave men and women who are risking their lives for you. And have a thought for their families.

I live in a peaceful cul-de-sac in Watertown, MA. Two weeks ago my father was hit by a drunk driver (foul mouthed, a drugs addict, probably black) on our driveway. This almost destroyed our happy suburban life. Because of this the right side of my father's left foot is paralyzed for the rest of his life. My mother saw the disaster happen and since then, she can't come out of the house any longer because she's grown afraid of cars. Now I have to do all the grocery shopping. I wrote a letter to the city council, asking if they could forbid cars for two weeks in the streets surrounding our cul-de-sac. This would help her get used to the idea of leaving the house again. Would you believe the city refused to even consider it? Frankly I'm offended as a tax payer that practical considerations are superior to the delicate feelings of the citizen.

It is noted that in many superstitious societies discriminating social practices are being introduced and resorted to deprive certain unpriviledged groups of their legitimate basic rights. Are such practices justified becouse these are based on the foolish superstitions of the majority of people of a backward society? How many countries have raised their civilisations on the basis of such evil customs? How many governments are capable of having effective intervention to save millions of their populations from being victim of evil hands supported by majority of their populations?

In addition to possessing the largest military capacity in the world, the U.S. also purchases more foreign goods and services than many other nations.

In the event of a catastrophic terrorist act, the U.S. economy would likely suffer a serious blow. While this would cause many problems within the U.S., decreased American consumption of foreign products causes harm to other nations as well.

Some leaders of some nations turn a "blind-eye" to the cultural incubation of terror mentalities. The "terror mentality" seems most attractive to segments of populations consisting of economically disenfranchised members of societies. While these people may not care whether U.S. consumption remains high, their leaders probably value the constant influx of U.S. spending.

Do these leaders realize how a catastrophic terrorist act on U.S. soil would affect their pocket-book?
