I am just curious and I am certainly not trying to start any poo. America is made up of immigrants. My family came here several generations ago through Ellis Island. I have been watching the debate taking place and I was just wondering are you against ALL immigration or just illegal immigration?

I don't have issue with Mexicans as a race. The problem is that they want to live here but still live like and BE Mexicans. You just can't do that. Someone said they were burning our flag. Someone else said it was because we burned theirs. I see it this way: we didn't go to THEIR country and burn THEIR flag. People keep saying our forefathers were illegal immigrants. No, they weren't. What law did they break? They weren't illegal ANYTHING. People keep saying this country was founded by immigrants and with the principle of immigration in mind. That is true, but those people came here to BE Americans, not live here, use up the resources while still claiming their "homeland" and then return to it to live better than they could if they stayed there all the time. They actually WERE immigrants and you can't call these people immigrants because they don't want to stay here. You can only call them squatters. Or thieves. Is this right?

In my local hospital there are hundreds of phipipino nurses, I have worked with them and I think they are extremely good. However, they are tret like donkeys in the workplace.

If an essential worker went to a country where there was a real shortage and not enough locals to fill the posts, would the essential workers be met with the same negitivity that other imigrants get ?

My fiance has been gone since February and I'm absolutely losing my mind at this point. We can't really talk that much on the phone, for obvious reasons, but a span of 14 days without knowing and I was going crazy! We've spent about 95% of our relationship apart and of course being away (distance) is no fun, but not knowing is worse...

I almost peed my pants laughing at that. The American people are so unbelievably blind and dont even know let alone try to see what the republican fascists are doing to their country.

Leave the sinking ship while you still can.
Let them sink by themselves

Hehe, I asked this to the guide and she was astonished...
It is a funny thing, because the land occupied by the United Nations headquarters is international territory, it has the extraterritoriality status like embassys have. Actually is no country and all at the same time... hohoho.

Of course if the parent's country citizenship is established by "jus sanguinis", the baby would have parent's citizenship... and diplomatics will want to finish quicky this mess this with that...
B U T what if their parents comes from a country where practices "jus solis"...

What nationality the baby would be?
From all countries? All members? From the 5 permanent members of the council?
Would he be the first and real International baby? The global baby?

hahaha, it is so hilarious this idea that I'm thinking of doing this...

What do you think folks?

I feel that the presidential election results should be based *completely* on popular vote. 1 vote = 1 voice. FYI, the Electoral College system was actually devised by our founding fathers because they felt that the common man really couldn't be trusted with a decision that important. This was their 'backup system'. Basically, if one state is predominantly Rep or Dem, an opposing vote in that state is practically meaningless. There have been several times in American history where the popularly elected candidate lost the election. Any thoughts?

The role of the president was never to be the direct ruler of the people. His role was to serve as the head of the unified collection of independent states to the world.

The democratically elected executive was supposed to be the governor of a state. The federal government is the representative body of the states, not the people. That's why only one house of congress was to be popularly elected. If we move to complete popular election of all federal offices, then wouldn't it completely invert the state/federal relationship? Roles that were reserved to the states would be devolved to the federal government, and voting in local elections would become redundant. Why have governors, or even states at all, when all the power will be vested in a unitary executive with popular demands to shoulder responsibilites formerly reserved to states, as will naturally tend to happen as people begin to view the presidency as the penultimate governorship.

most of yourfirst defences will be that "they are out picking vegies from 4am to sun down" and where does all that hard work go to,? themselves! they dont pay taxes with it, they dont buy their food with it, they dont pay their hospital bills with it, it all goes towards their own pleasure whether its beer, drugs, prostitution or some new rims. hard workers put their responsibilities first, i'm not talking about all illegals but the majority of them that are like this.

In the past few weeks, gas prices have dropped in my area from about $2.89 to $2.45. That's almost a 50 cent drop in prices! There is some kind of collusion going on here. Consumers are exercising their monopsony power and driving less to drive down prices. It is predatory. I think we should investigate and prosecute those responsible. We should implement mileage controls, a minimum mileage everyone must drive every day.

It is the greed of the consumers doing this, who would rather hoard their money away than spend it on gas. Don't they know that there are families that depend on the income that their job in the oil industry provides? How will the oil rig worker's kids go to college?

This is criminal. People should be punish. We should pass a tax on savings accounts, and print more money to increase inflation to encourage spending to that the greedy don't get away with this.

I think politicians will tell us anything ...we dont know where our tax dollars go....I mean alot of people say we can do something about giving our money and helping Mexico ....Can we...Can we trust Clinton to tell us the truth about anything if he lied about having sex??? Other corruption with him ..too long to list ...Bush...Can he get his mind off the war to see we Americans need help too???....Why does our Government have to give these immigrants money to come over here to start a new life ...?? If our Government can do that ....and fight for Iraq to be a free country ...why is america paying these people to come over here and not trying to make them...unlike Iraq..we just went in and made them...but before you say ..weapons...these Mexicans say they are being treated bad...So why dont our Government stop it instead of offering free tickets into US and putting their cost on us??? So can you prove where our tax dollars r going?...Mexicans stand up and fight for your country!!!

I have heard people express the concern that the Consititution isn't democratic enough, that they need more power, etc. Why is democracy, which is nothing more than a tool of wielding power, the most overridingly important principle? We were not founded as a democracy. We are a republic.

The overruling concern should be liberty, and ONLY after that is achieved, then democracy can be used as ONE OF MANY means to ensure the rights of minorities.

But the very definition of democracy is antithetical to liberty. Rule by majority. There is nothing in that definition that questions the legitimacy of that rule, or whether every application of democratic power is just.

A few days ago, a person answering the question of whether the constitution were democratic enough, said that it was not, because they did not have the power to tax the wealthy more than they already are. But that's precisely why democracy is always a bad idea. There will always be a small hated group of people
