Aren't controversial topics exciting to talk about? Why are people so afraid of confrontation? Are they worried that someone with a different opinion might convince them to change their mind?

I think it's educational to talk about these subjects. You learn a lot from other people ~ and you learn alot about them.

I told my boss I could not work for him if he continued yelling, cursing, & making sexual remarks to me. (I had walked out of the office 3 times prior due to his yelling & cursing.) This time I mentioned the "sexual remarks" issue. Once I said that, his exact words were: "Get the F*** out of his office. You make me sick. You'll never be successful in any job because you need serious help. Go on, get your things and get out of here. I can't even look at you!" So I left. My question is: Was I fired? I was hoping by bringing to his attention my issues, I would not have to quit. I never had the chance to discuss it any further. Once I mentioned the sexual remarks, he pointed towards the door & said to get out. Is that Retaliation? Do I have a case? If so, is it in my best interest to sue? Is it worth my time? I need to find a job asap. I am so angry that bosses think that since they own the company that they can treat their employees like that. What shoud I do?

I'm deployed in Iraq. My wife left me and left the bills going to some neighbor. I have to get a change of mail address so the car payments come to me in Iraq. However, for the first month I might be late on my car payment because of this and I've never been late. I also have to cut my joint account as well. She just left and never let me know anything. She did me wrong. That I'm not worried about, what I'm worried about is how I'm going to handle these bills, change of address, car payments, and all this other mess. She left me because I'm getting out of the Army (German), used me for the military paycheck. Plus, she's jealous of my momma, and it caused problems because she tried to hurt my momma by being mean to her purposely. No one hurts my blood especially my momma! She left back to Germany and took the kids with her. I'll be fine though. What are some things that I should do in order to get myself straight, should I also go looking for another female companion right now?

Why do some people feel the need to tell everyone else how to live their lives? Why do they care if two gay people get married? Why do they care if a woman wants to get an abortion? Why do they care if someone wants to buy a pornographic movie or an adult toy?

Why can't they just live their own life the way they see fit ~ teach their own children to live that way, and let other people choose for themselves?

I don't understand the patriotism to an island territory of the United States. I don't see the flags of the other U.S. territories such as: American Samoa, Guam, Marianas Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

All wealth emanates from natural resources (minerals/fossil fuels, arable land, forestry, crops. wildlife, water resources/fisheries, human resources etc). All of africa's resources are extracted by the West for the West. This is the issue Bono etc should be tackling to make poverty history if they are really serious aboit making poverty history. Africa do not need the tied aid of 0.3% or 0.7%/ Let the WEST KEEP THEIR 0/7% and get out of Africa. How do we make the west get out? Now that's where we need the UN and all genuine progressives to join hands.

for whatever reason the people next door keep throwing "good stuff" over the fence into my yard, shoes, shirts, balls. and so far I have placed the items back into their yard but I would like to know since they are doing it on purpose can I keep what I want or throw it away if I dont want or need it and dont feel like giving it back. I am getting tired of returning all these things.

I appeared to me that IF those 'Hollywood types' truly cared abot the plight of those farmers on that property in Los Angeles, they would have better shown it ny helping to purchase the land, instead of protesting against the actual owner of the land bulldozing it! If I were running whatever organization for the environment, I would put out a memo saying, 'Hollywood, stay away from the cameras, you aren't helping'. Of course there actually are some that actually do help, but the ones that Ms. Hanna showed up with (I believe it was Hanna, Glover, and others) did not help. Why couldn't they come up with the $1million dollars? Would have been BETTER coverage AND a tax write-off!

I mean at one point or another you change to the other depending on the situation. I can't see any one person saying they've never done something liberal and conservative in their lives. And don't have moments where they agree with the other side.

The soldier whispered softly,
I barely heard him speak.
"We are all that stands between
these monsters and the weak."

The sun beat down like hammers,
not a cloud was in the sky.
The air ran thick with dust,
my throat was parched and dry.

With microphone clutched tight
and a cameraman in tow,
I ducked beneath a fallen roof,
surprised to hear "stay low."

My eyes blinked several times
but in shadows I could see
the figure stretched near rubble
just steps away from me.

He wore a cloak of burlap strips,
all shades of grey and brown
that hung in tatters till he seemed
to melt into the ground.

He never turned his head or
took his eye from off the scope,
but pointed through the broken wall
and down the rocky slope.

"About eight hundred yards,"
he said in whispered words concise,
"beneath the baggy jacket
he's wearing a bomb device."

A chill ran up my spine
despite the sweltering heat,
"You think he's gonna set it off
along that crowded street?"

The sniper gave a weary sigh
and said, "I wouldn't doubt it,
unless there's something this
old gun and I can do about it."

A thunderclap, a tongue of flame
the stillness abruptly shattered
while citizens who walked the street
were just as quickly scattered.

Only one remained. Dead!
He lay crumpled on the ground;
A threat to those nearby
was ended in a single round.

And yet the sniper had
no cheer nor hint of any gloat,
instead he pulled a logbook out
and quietly he wrote.

I said, "I could put you on TV.
That shot would make a story!"
But he surprised me once again,
"I got no wish for glory."

"Are you for real?" I asked in awe,
"You don't want fame or credit?"
He looked at me with saddened eyes
and said, "I don't think you get it."

"You see that shot-up length of wall,
the one without a door?
Before a mortar hit,
it was a grocery store."

"Don't be thinking that bombing
a store is the only thing that's cruel;
See the rubble across the street,
it used to be a school."

"Little kids played soccer
in the field beyond that road;
They never gave a single thought
that a car would just explode."

"As bad as all this is, though,
it could be a whole lot worse,"
Shaking his head, he swallowed
and his words became a curse.

"We fight this war on foreign land
on streets that aren't our own.
I'm here, today, 'cause if I fail,
the next fight's back at home."

"I will not let my Safeway burn,
my neighbors dead inside;
Don't wanna get a call from school
that says my daughter died."

"I pray that not a single child
will know the things I see
nor have this kind of slaughter
etched in memory."

"So put away your trophies
with their words of fleeting fame,
I don't care to make the news
or hear them say my name."

He glanced at the camera,
and his brow began to knot.
"If you're looking for a story,
just give this one a shot."

"Why not tell our folks at home
about the good we've done,
how when they see Americans,
Iraqi kids come at the run."

"Tell 'em what it means to folks
right here to speak their mind
without the fear that tyranny
might be a step behind."

"Describe the miles they walked
to have a chance to vote
or ask a soldier if he's proud;
I'm sure you'll get a quote."

He turned and slid the rifle
into a drag bag thickly padded,
then sadly looked at me again
and with these words, he added.

"Maybe just remind the few
to whom they all may speak,
that we are all that stands between
these monsters and the weak."

God said "thou shall not kill" and "thou shall not lie with thy brother as thou would with a woman." Why don't we listen to Him? Why don't we follow the laws given to us by the ONLY one who has the power to grant us or deny us entrance into His holy kingdom for eternity? Why don't we listen and obey? WHY???????????????
